It's hot, hot, hot this week! But not just in the playground - we've be hot in the classroom with our maths. Column subtraction has been on our minds and we've loved it once again! The children are getting super confident with their methods. In English, we have started our reports on an Australian animal - did you know that a koala can sleep for up to 18 hours a day?
In R.E. we have been talking about Jesus and his friends - his disciples. We discussed what made a good disciple and made paper dolls to demonstrate all these qualities.

What a lovely week we've had in this first part of summer term 1. We got straight into our Australia topic, locating the territories and states using an atlas. In maths, we have loved column addition - we did both 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. We also looked at partitioning.

This week, the children have been learning all about 3D shapes, they even made some 3D skeletons out of straws and modelling clay. They talked about their properties - about sides, vertices and faces.
We've been busy finishing off our Mousehole Cat stories as well as completing some busy 'quizzes'. I'm pleased to say that all the children worked hard and did themselves proud!

It's been a busy and strange week in Class 2 - the children have had to cope with different adults in class as well as Mrs Barker being beamed in from home! But they have done a superb job and they should all be very proud of themselves.
Maths has been all about problem solving this week, in fact why not have a go at this problem that the class had to solve on Wednesday...
In English, the children used their story maps from last week to retell the story of the Mousehole Cat. They produced some fantastic work, thinking about all the Year 2 ingredients; here are some examples from Olivia and Thomas...

On Wednesday we joined 32 other schools in the authority for a virtual author event organised by the fabulous bookshop 'Read'. In the live event with author Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre, well-known for their Legend of Kevin series of books, children heard readings from their new book Kevin and the Biscuit Bandit and took part in a drawing activity.
We've also been looking at 'how people pray' in our RE sessions. We designed our own prayer mats. Here are just a few...
