Remote Learning 17th July 2020

admin on: Class 2

So 17 weeks ago, I waved goodbye to my wonderful Year 2 class, having spent an amazing two terms with them. It was so emotional, and I didn't have any idea what the following weeks would bring. I wrote on the blog on the 20th of March that 'I will do everything I can to support you all in these uncertain times ahead'. I hope that you feel that I kept my promise - from all your lovely cards, emails, messages and conversations, I think that I have.

I would like to say lots of thank yous. Firstly to the wonderful children of Class 2. You have astounded me by your resilience, your motivation, your ability to produce exceptional work in exceptional times. You have done Lego challenges, baked, written stories, read books in weird places, walked, taken part in virtual sports day, run the race for life, created rainbows and rain makers, painted Aboriginal art. You've kept up with the 6 questions and gone on bug hunts, you've posed for portraits and made ice lollies. You've written letters to your new teacher, drawn with Rob, learned column addition and subtraction - and yesterday you came into school for the 'summer send off' with smiles on your faces and stories to tell. It was wonderful to see you and my how you've all grown!

My next thank you goes to your adults. It's not been an easy time, I know! But you became teachers over night - you embraced the blog and emailed me with photos and updates. You kept your children safe and ensured they had the best experiences during lock down - all while trying to work from home or juggling jobs. Thank you for all your amazing gifts and cards - at the end of each year, these gifts are never expected but always appreciated and this year especially! Thank you for the wonderful photo book - something I will treasure forever.

I can't write this final blog without a thank you to the rest of the Netherthong team. To Miss H, for sharing the blog with me, as we have the class in 'real times'. I've always known that the class have been in safe hands with Miss H and her creative wonderful ideas have been a joy to read. For the rest of the school team too, who have worked tirelessly in school and at home to keep the school community together while dealing with their own personal situations. I've been in awe at how we have all coped with change and uncertainty.

So onto today...

If we were in class today, we'd be having 'golden time'. "What's golden time?" I hear you cry! Golden time is choice - doing the things you really want to do. So I'd like you to have some golden time together at home today. Here are some suggestions:

Play a board game or card game such as Dobble

Watch your favourite film and eat popcorn!

Do lots of craft or drawing

Go outside and play with your favourite outdoor toys

Have a go at this 'I spy' activity

Bake your favourite recipe (if it's cake, remember to lick the bowl!)

Try this quiz

Play some party games

Have a mini disco

Whatever you decide to do - have fun and take a few pictures for today's final gallery.

Have an amazing day!

Remote Learning Thursday 16th July 2020

admin on: Class 2

Good morning the beautiful people of year 2!

I can’t believe that it is the end of a half term and the end of a school year! I would just like to take this time to say thank you! I have loved my Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays and the reason why is you! Throughout this most strange time, you have not ceased to amaze me with your attitude and effort that you have put into all the work that has been given! I thought I would share this creation that I made with you over the weekend, a blueberry cheesecake …

If you fancy having a go, the recipe can be found here. What do you think?

I thought that today, as it is my last day with you, I thought that we could have a fun-filled crafty day so here are just a few activities that you could have a go at where you can recycle some household objects:

Tissue box monsters

Tissue box guitars

Cardboard shakers

Treasure wind chime

Egg carton jellyfish

Fish natural collage – Here is the templates you could use or you could make your own!

Bowling game

Here is the science STEM booklet that I posted last half term for you to have a go at a few more of the fabulous activities:

STEM Challenge Cards

I must say I feel very lucky that I still get to see you for a morning next year but I can’t wait to see you today!

Have the most wonderful summer, stay safe and see you all (after 7 weeks off!!) in September!

Love

Miss H xxx

Photo gallery! 15th July

admin on: Class 2

Good morning class 2!

Many apologies! I had promised to post you a lovely gallery of photos yesterday and tried all day to do just that! For some reason our blogs appear to be having technical difficulties! We are unable to post photographs at the moment; just typical!! I'll post them just as soon as we have solved the problem!!

Thanks so much for your patience!!

Mrs Matthews
