This week we've started our new book - The Mousehole Cat. Although we have't actually read it - we've been concentrating on this picture:

Then we've written a description of the picture. I asked the children to really think about their sentence starts and we used the alphabet to try to encourage us to use a different start each time. Here's Tommy so far...

A peaceful breeze sways on the coast. Boats are floating along the sea. Calmly, the man is tying up a bag. Down on the beach, there are some seagulls. Expectantly, the cat is looking at the bumpy hills. Fluffy clouds are floating off through the blue sky. Gently, the breeze is moving the sea to push the boats. How does the wind flow through the air? Just then, the man sees a red canoe.

I hope that you agree that this is fabulous writing! Well done Tommy!

A huge welcome back to the Summer Term! I hope you've had a lovely Easter. This week we've started out new 'Seaside' topic with lots of talk of holidays and thinking about seaside words. We've been drawing in the style of Nick Sharratt and we even created a whole class poem:

We also made the most of today's weather and the blossom before it blows away. We spent time in the quiet area outside and sketched. This was Rosie's...

Well done Rosie!

Have a lovely weekend.

We've made it to the end of the spring term - well done everyone for a fantastic transition back into school life. We've had another packed week. The children have been writing about their 'Covid Year' and finished their Great Fire of London board games. They really enjoyed playing them with their partners...

Happy Red Nose Day! We've had fun outside today, on a Red Nose treasure hunt. The children worked well in teams to find letters all around the grounds. We've also painted our clay model of houses from Pudding Lane. We had some wonderful designs.

Next week we'll be thinking about Easter in the run up to the holidays.

Welcome Back!

Year 2 have had a busy first week back after remote learning. It was lovely to see everyone return to the class with smiles on their faces. We've continued looking at the Great Fire of London and brushed up our maths skills with methods for addition, subtraction and fractions.
