Homework 06/11/20

admin on: Class 2

Well that's week 1 done! It's been nice to be back in the classroom and get on with learning, especially in a world which feels ever-changing at the moment. Rest assured, in school we are staying positive and just cracking on with all our new learning and topics. If you haven't looked at the Autumn Curriculum letter, then please do. You can download it here.

We've been busy designing our puppets this week, and the children even had a go at making their own 'pattern', ready to use next week when we cut out our designs. We had some amazing ideas:

This week's homework is Mathletics - doubling/halving and odds/even (we need to get the trophy back from Y1 , so please do as much as possible!). Spelling Shed with the 'soft c' sound:

race
ice
cell
city
fancy
face
space
bicycle
circle
spicy

Blue books have a real and alien word activity - please read through the words with your child and tick if they can do them without any help. I'll be completing the missed Y1 phonics check over the next few weeks.

Finally, to keep you checking in with TEAMs, there's a little task on there.

I hope you have a fun, safe weekend - I feel a lot of snuggling in with movies and Lego coming on!

Take care,

Mrs B x

Happy Holidays!

admin on: Class 2

So we've made it to the holidays (well almost for me!). A huge congratulations to the children for a brilliant first half term. We've had a lot to cope with but we've done it and it was an absolute pleasure to speak to you all at parent's evenings this week.

This week we've enjoyed learning all about Amy Johnson and the children wrote their longest piece of writing yet! I was super impressed about all the facts they had remembered about her - why not ask them all about it!?

No formal homework for the holidays - please enjoy some precious family time together. After the hols, I'm going to do the 'Number Bonds to 10 Challenge'. So if you want to do any work - then practise the number bonds to 10 (1 + 9, 2 + 8, 3 + 7, 4 + 6, 5 + 5). Children NEED to be really fluent at this - so that it really becomes instinctive. The challenge will be to stand up and have numbers thrown at them (not literally!) and they have to respond with the correct number bond. So I might say '6', they need to shout back '4'! We'll have a competition to see how many they can get right in 1 minute. All children will be invited to have a go (if they don't want to do it in front of everyone, they can do it just with me!).

Don't forget to join in our balloon race:

Have a lovely holiday, stay safe and see you on the 2nd of November!

Friday 16th October 2020

admin on: Class 2

Happy Friday everyone. A huge thank you to all of you that sent in your extreme reading photos on TEAMS, there were some amazing ones! I think we'll make a display in school of them. I've popped another nice challenge on there for you, so you can get used to using TEAMS. This week, I'm please to see that we were KS1 Mathletics champions! You'll find an adding activity and a fact families activity on there this week. There's also a number bonds to 10 activity in the blue book - some many of the children don't know their number bonds and it is ESSENTIAL that they do - so please spend some time on this activity.

We've finished our 'Shackleton's Journey' book about the famous explorer today, why not ask your child about their journey and what they can remember? We did some beautiful chalk mountain pictures inspired by the book...

Spelling Shed words are:

badge

edge

bridge

fudge

age

huge

change

charge

village

Finally, I just like to share the FONS virtual balloon race link:

Have a lovely weekend and I look forward to 'seeing' you all virtually at parent's evenings next week.

Stay safe,

Mrs B x

World Mental Health Day 2020

admin on: Class 2

9th October 2020

As October 10th is World Mental Health Day, throughout the today, every year group has learnt about what mental health is, discussed this topic and completed different activities based upon this. Why not ask your child/ren about what they have learned today?

Young Minds is a charity that is leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. They are there to make sure young minds get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

Homework 09/10/20

admin on: Class 2

Well we've made it to Friday again, the weeks seem to be flying by! This week has been another week of measuring in maths - both weighing and looking at liquids. We played a great interactive game on Tuesday - Mostly Postie, click here to have a go!

Today we've been collaging backgrounds for our paper boats - messy but fun! The children wanted to take them home tonight, but I think we're going to put them on display.

Thank you for your support, once again, with homework. Please keep trying to log onto TEAMS. I now have 14 families who have managed, but I'd like everyone - so please get in touch if you're having trouble. I've popped a little activity on there for you to try this week.

Spelling Shed this week is words ending in double consonants:

puff

fluff

 bell

 doll

 grass

 kiss

 buzz

 fizz

 clock

 back

Mathletics is measuring and weighing. There's also a little odds/evens activity in the blue book - it says 'click' on the number but please colour the numbers to show the odds and evens.

Have a lovely weekend.
