Friday Roundup 11/12/20

admin on: Class 2

Today we had the panto 'Wizard of Oz', the children had a lovely time. Thank you to FONS for organising this for the school.

We've had a week of handwriting - really concentrating on our letter formation and ensuring we use ascenders and descenders. I was so proud of all the children - it was really mindful and they produced their best work for a display.

Next week is Christmas week, hopefully you've all seen this note in bookbags:

Year 2 – Christmas week

Next week is our final week and we are dedicating the whole week to Christmas! Children will be involved in variety of Christmas crafts and make cards, calendars and baubles. We’ll doing some Christmas maths, plus listening to carols and stories. Christmas dinner is on Wednesday and our CARE awards will be on the Friday. Christmas movies will no doubt make an appearance and on Friday morning we have our very own Y2 Christmas party in the hall with snacks provided by FONS. Children are welcome to wear their Christmas jumpers/party clothes on the last Friday – but please remember sensible shoes and it is COLD in school! Children will bring home all their Christmas crafts on the last day and we’ll be sharing our ‘Do they know it’s Christmas time?’ song!

We very much look forward to finishing off the year with lots of fun and thank you for your support during the autumn term, we’re sure you’ll all be ready for a restful, peaceful and safe Christmas.

Christmas wishes,

Mrs Barker, Miss Hemingway and all the Y2 team

Friday 4th December 2020

It certainly feels like winter! The snow has caused much excitement today but we've tried to concentrate on our learning too! We've got to the end of our Journey stories - the children have written some wonderful pieces and really thought about their sentence types.

We managed to get some fresh air this afternoon and really appreciate a winter wonderland scene - apologies if there were a few wet feet, some trainers are more waterproof than others.

Next Tuesday, PE will definitely be outside, so please come in outdoor PE kits and waterproofs. There's no PE next Friday as it's PANTO time - oh yes it is!

Talking of Christmas, I'll be sending a note home about our plans for the last week of term which is dedicated to the big event. However, here's a peek at our wonderful whole school display on Christmas trees and our beautiful tree in the hall...

Homework is on TEAMs tonight - please check this out, there are details of our Christmas song which we'd love everyone to be involved in.

Take care,

Mrs B x

Friday 27th November 2020

It's Friday again - the weeks seem to be flying by. We've had another busy week writing our Journey stories. The children are showing real stamina for writing and have been really proud of themselves when they've written more than a page!

In maths, we've gone bonkers about shape! We've been using a ruler to draw our own shapes and thinking about their names. The children have been keen to know what ten sided shapes are called!

Homework for this week can be found on TEAMS - please check it out.

Stay safe and have a great weekend!

Homework Friday 20th November

admin on: Class 2

Happy Friday everyone. It feels like quite an achievement to get to the end of each week. Thank you to everyone who joined the TEAMS test on Tuesday, it really helped me to understand what can be achieved and what we might do if (I do hope it is an if) we have to close our bubble. It was lovely to see all your faces on screen.

This week has been anti-bullying week and we have been talking a lot about kindness. There is a poster task on TEAMs this week relating to this. We have also started to write our 'Journey' story, which we will continue next week:

Spellings are on Spelling Shed - please have a look at these - as we are really focusing on phonics in the classroom at the moment, we have had less time to practise spellings...

In the blue homework book there are some more real and alien words to read through - please tick if your child can read them independently. Mathletics this week is about representing numbers in tens and one.

Have a safe weekend!

Homework 13/11/20

admin on: Class 2

Another busy week has been and gone, with Remembrance Day, Children in Need and the flu vaccination! We've also been learning about Diwali plus all our usual learning. Today we began a little bit of Christmas display work - all classes will be creating a Christmas tree for the hall display so children will see that from the 1st of December when they go for their lunches.

Thank you for all your support with homework and the phonics reading. We started the phonics checks yesterday and they will carry on each Thursday for the next few weeks. In maths we have been adding and subtracting using the 100 square to help us, the children have become very fluent at this...

Mathletics homework this week is all about adding and TEAMs is about the Arctic. I've set a task using Flipgrid - there is a QR code in the children's homework books and instructions on the TEAMs assignment. PLEASE have a go at this as it looks really fun and is a little experiment as to what we can achieve on TEAMS. I'm also going to be doing a live mini lesson on TEAMS next Tuesday at 4:00pm. More information will follow by text!

This week's spellings on Spelling Shed are:

 write
 written
 wrong
 wrap
 wren
 wrecked
 wrapped
 wriggle
 wrestle

 wrote

Have a fabulous weekend and stay safe!
