Hello everyone!

Hope you have all had a great week and are very much looking forwards to the weekend. I am so excited about meeting you all on Monday 13th; don't forget to book a time to come as it would be such a shame to miss miss seeing you. I can't wait to see you all, see how much you have all grown and find out all the exciting things you have been getting up to!

Thank you so very much for all the amazing photos you have sent me this week; you have been so busy! I'll post photos a little later today so do keep looking on the blog!

Here are today's activities;

P.E.

Let's begin the day calmly with a super relaxing yoga; 'Rainbow Yoga' with Adrienne and her gorgeous dog!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF7O6-QabIo

Maths;

Today I'd like you just to complete 2 mental maths activities on 'Mathletics'; they involve both addition and subtraction and will remind you that in some cases addition and subtraction can be done very simply by adding or subtracting the tens column and then the ones column without the need for column addition or subtraction (you don't always need to use them!!)

Literacy;

Please can you continue with the 2Do I set for you yesterday; writing 'Mousehole Cat' from the point of view of Tom (telling the story as if you were Tom). You do not need to re-write the whole story; select your favourite section and focus on that part, but include lots of exciting detail and of course pictures too! Take care with spellings and punctuation and remember to print it out and take a photo or save it.

Science;

Let's recap some of our work on magnets.

Ask Mum or Dad if you have a magnet. Please could you use your magnet to find out which items in your home are magnetic and which are not. If you like you could create a table to display your results.

Can you therefore tell me which materials are magnetic and which are not, eg tell me if tin is magnetic, if plastic is magnetic.... etc?

Reading;

Please either spend some time reading a book of your choice to Mum or Dad OR complete the latest 2Do on Purple Mash (reading the latest chapter in your text in Emeralds or Diamonds).

That's everything!! Remember just to select the activities you think you can manage and enjoy your day!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend; have lots of fun and please keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine!

See you all a week on Monday! Don't forget to book your slot!

Love from,

Mrs Matthews x

Hello again super stars!

I hope you all had a great day yesterday and had lots of fun! I'm really, really, really looking forwards to seeing you all very soon; I can't wait! It seems so long ago we all saw each other; I bet you've all grown!!

Here are our activities for today;

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 2kg 200g + 3kg 250g
  2. 3L 200mls + 1L 150mls
  3. 1/2 of 28
  4. 1/4 of 28
  5. 5m 350cm - 2m 150cm
  6. 7L 255mls - 5L 105mls
  7. 22 x 5
  8. 43 x 3

Problem;

If I poured 3L 350mls into a paddling pool (on a very warm sunny day in Netherthong) and then added 1L 155mls, how much would be in my pool altogether?

Activity;

Adding tens to 3 digit numbers (recap)

I have set a 2Do on Purple Mash for you. I'd like you to practise adding tens to 3 digit numbers. Remember if you are adding tens you will need to focus on the tens column in the 3 digit number. If that column is then greater than 9 you will need to include the hundreds column in your calculation too. Have a look on Purple Mash; we have done this sort of calculation many times before so it should be good revision!

Literacy;

1. Let's practise handwriting...

Select one of the handwriting sheets in your pack and see if you can join as neatly as you did back in school!!

2. Mousehole Cat

Nicola Bayley The Mousehole Cat, this is a wonderful book and also ...        The Mousehole Cat - The Lounge - Netweather Community Forums

I've set a 2Do on Purple Mash; it's a lovely story writing frame that will provide you with a little booklet. I'd like you to use Purple Mash to re-write the Mousehole Cat as Tom, rather than the cat. Don't worry about finishing the whole story or including every single detail but see if you can have a go at making a start today. Think carefully about punctuation and spellings. You can complete it on the computer or print it out and write it; it's entirely up to you. If you complete it on the computer you could perhaps print it out afterwards.

Art;

Choose one of the windows in your house. Look carefully at everything you can see through the window. Please can you draw the window frame around the edges of your paper and then draw everything you can see. You can use paints, pastels, crayons, a pencil; it's totally your choice. Relax and enjoy!!

Reading;

Relax and enjoy reading to Mum or Dad. Remember to use exciting expression and don't forget to make sure you can answer lots of questions about the story.

That's it folks!! Have a wonderful day and please keep in touch. Please keep sending me your lovely photos and if you haven't yet, please do as I really enjoy seeing them and posting them for you.

Have fun!

See you very soon,

Mrs Matthews x

Home Learning Wednesday 1st July

admin on: Class 3

Good morning everyone!

Hope you all had a great day yesterday doing exciting activities for Mrs Kendall and Miss Watkins.

Before I give you your activities for today, here's a brief photo gallery! I've had so many wonderful photos sent this week; thank you so much everyone for your AMAZING hard work!

Max's chocolate crispie slices; yum!!                     Laurie's ice cube science!

Here's Laurie's geography too; comparing capital cities in the UK.

Here are your activities for today! Remember not to worry about struggling to complete everything if time is tricky; just select what you can do!

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. If it is 3:20, what time will it be in 30 minutes? (don't forget to count in 5s)
  2. If it's 4:25, what time will it be in 30 minutes?
  3. I have 8 angles, what shape am I?
  4. I have 5 sides, what shape am I?
  5. 342 - 8
  6. 654 - 5
  7. 35 x 5
  8. 655 divided by 5 (remember 'bus stop')

Problem;

If all the apples that come to school come in bags of 8, how many do I have if 6 bags arrive? If 2 are badly bruised, how many apples are left?

Activity;

I have set a revision 2Do on Purple Mash for you; it's adding ones to 3 digit numbers. You'll need a piece of paper and a pencil as you'll need to calculate your answers (you may need to use columns).

French;

Today I'd like you to begin to learn the days of the week. Here is a list of them and their English translations. Please could you copy both the French and the English and then cut them out, mix them up and try and match them. Perhaps you could use different colours for each day of the week; so both the French and the English Monday could be red, for example...

NB The 'i' at the end of the days = 'ee' sound

Monday = Lundi  (pronounced lurndee)

Tuesday = Mardi (pronounced mardee)

Wednesday = Mercredi (pronounced mecredee)

Thursday = Jeudi (pronounced jurdee)

Friday = Vendredi (pronounced ventradee)

Saturday = Samedi (pronounced (samdee)

Sunday = Dimanche (pronounced deemornsh)

English;

Look back at our story of the 'Mousehole Cat'. Here's the link......

THE MOUSEHOLE CAT.pdf

You could watch the videos again if you like;

https://vimeo.com/42079212

https://vimeo.com/42080367

Think carefully about the character Tom; he's the old man that owns Mowzer. Please can you draw a large colourful picture of Tom and label him with adjectives and descriptive phrases that depict his character.

History; (local history)

Castle Hill and Victoria Tower | Day Out With The Kids

Many of you will have visited Castle Hill and certainly all of you will have seen it from a distance, but do you know anything about its history?

Please could you take your time and create a lovely detailed picture of Castle Hill; you can use paints, pastels, crayons or just a pencil. It is entirely up to you. You might decide to use Cezanne's style of painting!

Could you then try and find out as much information as you can about the history of Castle Hill. I'd like you to carefully write out individual captions of non-fiction information about Castle Hill's history and add these to your drawing/painting.

Reading;

After a busy day spend some lovely quiet 1 to 1 reading time with Mum or Dad

or you can read your next chapter on Purple Mash- it is up to you (there is a 2Do ready for you if you like).

Have a great day and remember to send me some of your photos; they're always great to see!

See you very, very soon!!

Mrs Matthews
