Hello all!

We've had another wonderful week in year 3! We've been sharing our new text 'The Iron Man' and have thoroughly enjoyed creating wonderful posters of him, labelled with all the facts we have learnt about him. We've decorated our 'Happy Jars' and will be adding fancy lids on Monday in readiness for bringing them home next week. They really do look so lovely!

I have given the children some homework today. Please see the spellings below! I have also asked the children to focus on learning their 2 and 5x tables as many of them have forgotten these. We will gradually work through most of the times tables this year. I have also highlighted a 'Mathletics' activity I would like the children to complete; it's focusing on place value. Please encourage your child to try other activities too as it's such a great resource and certainly helps to improve mental maths.

Here's a couple of photos of the children completing their 'Iron Man' posters; they had great fun working together on these! We've linked the story to drama and music too. We've even used drama in our French this week too; the children are fabulous actors and actresses!

Here, the children are perfecting their wonderful dance. They are developing a great routine!

Here are the spellings for this week;

A little update 30th September 2020

admin on: Class 3

Good evening everyone!

I just thought I'd post a little message to you all to say 'hallo' again and to let you know what we have been doing. We are continuing to have a great time together in our year 3 bubble. We have had great fun in science; we have become quite skilled scientists! We've been conducting investigations on our rocks and have learnt lots about their physical properties. We've investigated density, durability and even looked at how porous they are and whether they react to vinegar!! We've had great fun!! We have even created amazing sculptures with them.

Our 'happy jars' are progressing well; we will be bringing these home when we have finished them. Each will be filled with positive comments about us and decorated as per our designs. I hope they bring many happy emotions for the children as we continue through this wonderful pandemic!!

I understand many of you have had difficulty accessing the activity I put on 'Teams' last week; I have had a look and sorted the problem so hopefully you should be able to access the activity!!

We are currently working hard on times tables as I feel many of the children are forgetting these. Please could you continue to help your child learn the 2 and 5x tables (believe it or not, many have forgotten them). We have a 'times tables challenge' in class and award a sticker to the chart whenever the children have learnt one. They need to be able to recite the times table and know them randomly too; this seems to be proving tricky!! We aim to know times tables up to at least 8 x tables by the end of year 3!

I haven't been putting homework on the blog up until this week as I have wanted to give the children time to settle into year 3 without feeling overworked at home. I have asked them all, however, to continue reading to you every day and to learn these times tables. I will begin adding homework each Friday to the blog from this week; keep an eye out on Friday!!

Here are just a few of our photos.....

Have a lovely week! I'll be in touch on Friday.

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews

Good afternoon everyone!

Hope you are all making the most of this gorgeous weather; sadly I don't think it's going to last much longer!!

Just a quick note about P.E.

Many apologies if I've confused you all about our P.E. days; we are now having P.E. on a Wednesday and Thursday. I promise it won't be changing again!

We have been recapping lots of maths this week and have been working on our times tables. I have asked the children to practice their 5 times tables this week so that they are much more confident when asked them at random. We will work on a different one each week and have a mini quiz on a Friday.

Thanks so much for your support,

Mrs Matthews

Monday 14th September

Good evening everyone!

We had a fabulous first week in Year 3; the children have all settled in beautifully and are an absolutely wonderful team. I'm really looking forwards to spending the year with them!

We have had lots of fun and have spent so much time learning practically and outdoors! wet hought we should make the most of our last few weeks of sunshine!! After a little practise on the grass last week, we have spend this afternoon in the forest creating fabulous pieces of art using lots of natural resources. The children have had a great time working together to create amazing masterpieces! We've worked outdoors on our maths once again too; ordering numbers, identifying odd and even numbers and recapping our place value.

Here is just a sample of images showing the work the children have been doing today..

Hope you have enjoyed sharing some of our photos; we will keep posting!!

Hope you're enjoying the sunshine!

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews

Our first day! 8.9.20

admin on: Class 3

Good evening everyone!

I just thought I'd let you know what a wonderful day we have all had in Year 3 today. The children have all been absolutely amazing; you would never have guessed they hadn't been in school for 6 months; complete superstars! We are definitely going to have a brilliant year; let's hope a full one this year too!

As the weather has been kind to us today we have made the most of the outdoors today and have had great fun creating natural sculptures outdoors. I have been amazed by the wonderful creativity the children have demonstrated. I think we have a class of artists this year!

We are currently in the process of creating a special display together in Year 3; it will be a celebration of all members of our team. The children have already prepared decorative name labels and drawn lovely pictures of themselves. It would be great to also display a photo of each of them too. If you possibly could, I would be really grateful if you would send me a photograph of your child via email and I will display it alongside their drawing and name label.

We are also going to be creating special memory/positivity jars in class too; please could you send in a glass jar (eg jam jar or coffee jar) so that your child can decorate it and add lots of lovely positive comments or memories.

Finally, please could I confirm that P.E. will be on a Tuesday and Thursday; please could your child come in his/her P.E. kit on those days. Please ensure he/she brings a water bottle and a piece of fruit or vegetable if required too.

Thank you so much for your support,

Mrs Matthews
