Hello wonderful year 3!

Still missing you lots and lots! Hope you have all been having a great time in the gorgeous sunshine; I'm guessing you'll have been in paddling pools and cooling off with very tasty ice pops whilst we've been roasting here in school!! I'm very jealous!

Here are your Friday activities.... (photos below)

P.E.

Why not start the day with either a gentle yoga or perhaps a quick assault course before it gets too hot! Here's a 'Harry Potter Yoga' if you fancy it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-BS87NTV5I

Reading;

I have set a 2Do for you on Purple Mash; choose either chapter 2 of 'Animal Boy' in Emeralds or chapter 2 of the text you were reading in Diamonds; 'Anna and the 3rd leaf'. Please answer the questions too; again, I have set a 2Do for you.

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. Write 20 past 6 as a digital time.
  2. If it is 3:15, what time will it be in 2 hours?
  3. 356 plus 228
  4. Subtract 36 from 528
  5. 45 x 4
  6. 8 x 4
  7. 672 divided by 3
  8. How many angles does a pentagon have?

Activity;

Let's solve some pictogram problems. Please select A or B (or C if you want more challenge!!)

Art;

Have a look at some of the beautiful landscapes painted by Paul Cezanne.

Search on the internet with Mum or Dad and find one you'd like to copy; relax, take your time and have a go. Here are just 2 examples...

See if you can send me a photo of one of his and your copy; don't forget to use independent brush strokes! Notice too how he often paints trees in the foreground.

Literacy;

I have set two grammar 2Dos on Purple Mash for you today; one is surrounding conjunctions and one is prepositions. They are easier than they sound. Have a look and give them both a try!

Have fun and enjoy your day!

Have a lovely weekend & I'll be in touch Monday!

Before I go, here's a few more of your brilliant photos....

  Charlie and Luna in the sun!    Mia's conversational French!

   Romeo enjoying working hard on his maths!

   Elijah working hard on maths too!

   Arianna's frequency chart and bar chart!

 Chloe on her visit to Mother Shipton's Caves!

 Finally, here's Mia enjoying her ice cube science!

Well done everyone and thank you so much for your photos.

See you soon everyone!

Hello everyone!

I hope you've been having a brilliant time in this gorgeous hot weather.

Today is going to be hotter still I think, so I thought you needed some activities to cool you down!

Here we go.....

Science;

Here's a little extra Science job! Your challenge is to conduct an experiment to find out which flavour of homemade ice cube (or ice pop) is the tastiest. You may think you know which is your favourite but have you really tested it to see? Which do you predict will be the best? You could do a blind trial to see if you were correct; that means you'll need to make a selection and taste each one without looking. You could make some interesting new flavours! You might want to score them out of 10. It's up to you!

Send me a photo of you doing the experiment or send me your results!

15 Quick and Easy Dinner Ideas (Freezer Meals)       How to Make Fruit and Vegetable Ice Pops - helloyummy

Literacy;

As you'll be getting hot in the sun today, please could you either make your own healthy smoothie or fruit kebab.

I love smoothies and fruit kebabs so please can you write a list of instructions on how to make it.

Take care with your handwriting, spelling and punctuation!

Please take a photo to show me what you created!

Maths;

Here's a few problems for you to solve! Please can you write your calculations?

  1. If I made 27 orange ice cubes, 15 lemon ice cubes and 34 pineapple ice cubes, how many would I have made altogether?
  2. If I poured 5L 250ml water in the paddling pool and then added 3L 125mls more water how much would there be in the pool?
  3. I made 1L 750mls smoothie but then knocked over the jug and spilt 228mls. How much did I have then?
  4. Mum made a tasty pizza to eat at lunchtime in the garden. She cut it into 10 tenths. If Sophie had 2/10, Mia had 2/10, Alfie had 1/10 and Laurie had 2/10, how much would be left?
  5. If I made 32 tiny sandwiches and needed to share them out between 8 teachers, how many would they have each?
  6. If I made a 1 litre jug of juice and drank 400mls, how much would I have left?

Reading;

Make a cool den in the garden and spend a little time reading to Mum or Dad. You could put your favourite teddy/teddies in your den and read to them too. If you have a younger sister, brother or a pet they may want to listen too! Can you answer questions on your book?

Well, that's all folks!!

Enjoy your day and have lots of fun in the sun!

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews x

A big thank you!

admin on: Class 3

Hello, Mrs Kendal here again. I'm just sneaking a quick blog onto your page (ssshhh, don't tell Mrs Matthews) to say a very big thank you for all of the wonderful work I have received. I can't wait to get to know you all in September.

Here are some of the Picasso pictures that you have created:

Home learning Wednesday 24.6.20

admin on: Class 3

Hello again fabulous year 3!

I missed you all yesterday! I hope you enjoyed reading your blog from Mrs Kendall and had fun doing your lovely art activity.

Here are some activities for today, but please do enjoy the lovely weather and don't feel you need to do all these activities today; select what you can manage.

French:

Let's practise some of the French we worked on earlier in the year. We looked at conversational French. You can work with Mum or Dad to do some drama and have a French conversation OR you could draw 2 people with a speech bubble each and add the sentences they may say to each other (examples below). Remember to use accurate punctuation.

Here are some spellings that may help you..

Bonjour.............. (Hello)

Salut...............(Hi)

Je m'appelle............... (My name is)

J'ai cinq  ans.........................(I am 5 years old)

Ca va?.....................(Are you ok?)

Ca va bien merci...............(I'm fine thank you)

Ca va mal...............(I'm not very well)

Bonsoir................(Good evening)

Au revoir....................(Goodbye)

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 5 x 8
  2. 7 x 4
  3. 8 x 3
  4. 40 divided by 8 (remember to use the information in number 1)
  5. 40 divided by 5
  6. 24 divided by 3 (use the information in number 3)
  7. 453 + 128
  8. 726 - 282

Problem;

Here is a number sentence; 34 + 25 = 59.

Can you write any other number sentences using these numbers?

Activity;

Let's try some bar chart problems today; choose either A or B

English;

Activity;

Look back at our story, 'Mousehole Cat' or watch the video clip below. Today I'd like you to be thinking about Tom on his boat in the middle of the storm.

Can you draw Tom in his boat in the middle of the horrific storm and then write a list of exciting descriptive sentences to tell me what he would have seen, heard and how he would have felt? Use fabulous adjectives.

eg Large crashing waves towered above him.

His boat rocked wildly from side to side.

Tell me about the waves, the sky, the weather, his boat, Mowzer, his feelings etc. Think about what he saw, heard, felt. You don't need to write lots, just a few examples for each.

Here's a clip....

Geography;

 I'd like you to work with Mum or Dad to search for and print out images of London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast. Can you locate them on a map of UK too? Talk to Mum or Dad about any similarities or differences between them.

Please stick the images in your book; use a column for each city, but remember to label your columns.

As always, please don't think you have to complete all these activities in one day; select those activities you can manage and do go out and enjoy the lovely sunshine. We may not get a week quite as wonderful as this one!

Have a fun day!

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews

Transition Tuesday 23rd June 2020

admin on: Class 3

Good morning Class 3, Mrs Kendal here!

For the next few weeks, either Miss Watkins or I will be writing your blog every Tuesday. If you were back in school, we would be having some transition sessions which would give us the chance to get to know you and you the chance to get to know us before September. As this is not possible, I hope that we can do that through your blog instead.

The activities that I am adding to your blog are only suggestions. You may feel like doing all, some or none of them – whichever you decide is fine.

Here are my ideas for today:

All about me -

When we have a transition day in school, Miss Watkins and I love finding out about the things our new class loves doing and what makes each person unique.

Today I would love to find out a bit about you. This could be presented in a poster, a letter, photos or an email.

Before you start, here’s a bit about me - I wonder if you can work out what each picture represents?

If you would like to tell me a bit about yourself (in your chosen style) please send emails and pictures to class4@netherthongprimary.co.uk

Maths -

Are you good at solving problems? Have a go at this Maths problem. You could even use real playing cards if you have some.

Art -

Miss Watkins and I are both big fans of art (as you will find out next year); Miss Watkins happens to be rather more talented than me though!

Picasso was a very famous artist who created very weird and wonderful drawings and paintings. Here are some of his creations:

As you can see, he painted faces in rather an unusual way!

Have a go at creating your own Picasso masterpiece by playing this game:

I would love to see some of your finished masterpieces! If you can, send me a picture to class4@netherthong.primary.co.uk

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and I hope that you have fun with some of these activities.

Have a wonderful day!

Love from Mrs Kendal and the year 4 team xx
