Matilda : Dahl, Roald, Blake, Quentin: Amazon.co.uk: Books

I have really enjoyed reading Matilda to you in class.  I love doing the shouty voice for Miss Trunchbull and seeing your faces.  Thank goodness that we have lovely teachers here at Netherthong.

You have all worked so hard on your assessments this week.  Struck record time - You Make Me Proud!!!

We celebrated British Science Week (thank you to Mr Kershaw for organising).  All of the children got to complete lots of different activities and investigations.  It was lots of fun and the children were amazing.

We have loved working on our double page spreads all about the Vikings.  You have so many facts written down, it is like we have a class encyclopaedia.

Fingers crossed that we have a weekend of wellness after last week.  Enjoy your weekend and see you all for the last week of term on Monday.

Well, another busy week at Netherthong Primary school in Class 3.

In Maths, we have continued our work on measure.  We learnt about capacity this week.

We have planted seeds in Science and they are currently waiting to germinate in bags hung up by the window.  We are hoping that they will all sprout and start growing next wee.  Fingers crossed.

In History, we continued learning about the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings and learnt about how the Vikings attacked at Lindisfarne.

We had a lovely day on Thursday to celebrate World Book Day.  We listened to MC Grammar and his WBD song.  It was a lot of fun and really made us giggle and join in too.

We created a journey map for the lovely book, the Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and we also create tally charts of our favourite books and asked all the children in the class to fill each others in.

This day was made extra special because we had a lovely tea party in the Library.  Miss Watkins read us some of Matilda, whilst we ate buns, biscuits or cakes and drank hot chocolates.  What a lovely time we all had!

Thank you to everyone this week.  Have  a great weekend and I hope that some of you might call and plant trees on the big field.

Well done this week.  You have all been superstars.

In Literacy, we have learnt how to write a play script.  We have all really enjoyed writing these.  Our theme was the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons.  The plays are all very dramatic!

In Maths, we have been learning how to add and subtract measurements.  Well done with this everyone.

Our History was fun.  We learnt the names of the Kingdoms from the Anglo-Saxon times.  Here is a map with the names on.Anglo-Saxons

Have a great weekend everyone.

This week in Maths we learnt all about our 4 times tables.  We worked some tricky jumping sums and created lovely 4 times tables flowers.  We also were amazing at telling the time to 5 minute intervals.

In Literacy, we held a democratic vote to decide on our new book.  The choices were The Last Viking (by Terry Deary) or I was there...(by Stuart Hill).  The vote was unanimously in favour of The Last Viking.  I wonder which one you would chose?  We wondered if we might even have time for both of them this half term.

We also wrote some Anglo-Saxon Kennings too.  These are really fun poems to try.  We wrote ours about ourselves.  Here are a few examples of our double word phrases.  Can you guess who there are about?

The highlight of our week came on Thursday!  We got to go come into school early and get the coach from the War Memorial.  The coach took us to Huddersfield Town Hall.  Miss Watkins, Mrs Oddie, Miss Monday and Emma came with us too.  There were lots of other school from around Kirklees.  We had a wonderful morning practicing our song and our sign language.  Paul was amazing and helped us with the signing.  He was so much fun and we loved him.

A lot of children returned for the evening performance.  We got to sit on the stage and perform to all of our grown ups in the audience.  What a wonderful evening.  We sang 5 songs - 1, 2, 3 Its good to be me, Believe, Three Little Birds, Love Shine a light and then Knees, Tum, Bum.  This made us giggle!

Miss Watkins was very proud of everyone!  And probably you were too (if you were there).

Well done Class 3!

Well that sees the end of another fantastic half term in Class 3.  We have worked so hard and learnt so much!

In Literacy, we have really enjoyed our work on Nim's Island, finishing with our wonderful double pages spreads.  You did a great job, adding facts and details about Nim and her island.

In Maths, we have completed some work on money, finding amounts and adding totals.  I am sure you will be able to spend some of your grown ups money well over half term!  We have also learnt all about Roman Numerals and how we still use them today.

Geography was a soggy one, where we learnt the names of some of the rivers in the UK, including the River Clyde, River Mersey (my favourite!) and the River Thames. That's a long one!

We learn the names of some of the main muscles in our bodies -  tickly triceps and bulging biceps!  Make sure that you use your muscles to help your grown ups, and to use those facial muscles to smile!

The most exciting day was Wednesday!  We designed, prepared and cooked our own pizzas.  This included chopping food, sprinkling basil or placing your food where it looks good!  We got a 5 star review from Miss Kelly!

We ended the week on a snow storm and election!  You all coped very well with the excitement.   A huge thank you to our outgoing minister Aggy for all her hard work in government.  And a well done to all of the children who said their speeches during our hustings on Thursday morning.  Our democratic vote was conducted well and I am pleased to announce that the newly elected Class 3 member of the Netherthong Government is Annie G!  Well done.

Have a wonderful week off.  Keep safe.

Miss Watkins and Mrs Oddie.
