Good afternoon everyone!

We've had another great week in Year 3; I can't believe it's already nearly half term! It has gone so fast! The children are all continuing to work exceptionally hard; I'm so proud of them all. Thank you all so very much for all the hard work you are doing at home with your children; it really makes such a super difference.

Our spellings for this week are listed below; I will also add them once again to Spelling Shed. We are currently having a whole school competition to see who accesses Spelling Shed, as well as Mathletics, the most. These winners are announced in our virtual assembly and certificates are awarded too. Keep working hard on both of these as of course we want Year 3 to feature in the celebrations each week!! We have been working hard on subtraction this week so I have added a subtraction task on Mathletics. However, please do try other activities too!

Next week we are hoping to create some 3D Iron Man scenes to recreate the story we are all enjoying. If you happen to have a spare shoe box at home and also some tiny boxes too please could you possibly send them into school early next week (eg oxo cube boxes or mini gift boxes that would be suitable for Iron Man's body).

Here are our spellings;

our

your

hour

great

who

would

could

should

We are currently working hard on our times tables too. I've sent home a sheet with all the times tables on so please do encourage your child to work really hard to learn the 2's, 3's and 5's; we are testing them on these at the moment, before moving onto the 4's and then 8's.

I have added a short history quiz for the children on 'Teams' so please encourage your child to try this. We focused on Stonehenge this week so it's all about Stonehenge. They should know the answers if they were focusing well in our history lesson this week!!

Well, that's all folks!

Have a wonderful evening and a super weekend!

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews x

Good afternoon everyone!

We've had another wonderful week in class 3; your children are just amazing! They're so hard working and enthusiastic about all we share; it really is a pleasure to teach them all.

We've spent our afternoon today focusing on mental health and have discussed the importance of looking after our bodies, including our minds. We began the afternoon with a wonderful yoga session together and ended by adding the final touches to our 'Happy Jars'! I do hope they have landed home safely and in one piece!! We've also enjoyed beginning some super artwork linked to our text, 'The Iron Man'.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend; let's hope it's not the rainy sort of weekend we endured last weekend!!

Here are this week's spellings to learn;

once

school

house

behind

child

children

every

everybody

I will add these to 'Spelling Shed' (the children have their new logins) but they are also in the children's diaries.

Please check 'Mathletics' for this week's activity. No doubt your children have told you we won the trophy for 'Mathletics' this week; we are very proud indeed! Please do encourage your child to try a number of activities on 'Mathletics' as I really do feel its an amazing resource to develop mental maths (and of course we want to win again- as P.E. co-ordinator, I'm very competitive!!)

Have a super weekend!

See you very soon,

Hello all!

We've had another wonderful week in year 3! We've been sharing our new text 'The Iron Man' and have thoroughly enjoyed creating wonderful posters of him, labelled with all the facts we have learnt about him. We've decorated our 'Happy Jars' and will be adding fancy lids on Monday in readiness for bringing them home next week. They really do look so lovely!

I have given the children some homework today. Please see the spellings below! I have also asked the children to focus on learning their 2 and 5x tables as many of them have forgotten these. We will gradually work through most of the times tables this year. I have also highlighted a 'Mathletics' activity I would like the children to complete; it's focusing on place value. Please encourage your child to try other activities too as it's such a great resource and certainly helps to improve mental maths.

Here's a couple of photos of the children completing their 'Iron Man' posters; they had great fun working together on these! We've linked the story to drama and music too. We've even used drama in our French this week too; the children are fabulous actors and actresses!

Here, the children are perfecting their wonderful dance. They are developing a great routine!

Here are the spellings for this week;

Have a super weekend everyone!

See you Monday,

A little update 30th September 2020

admin on: Class 3

Good evening everyone!

I just thought I'd post a little message to you all to say 'hallo' again and to let you know what we have been doing. We are continuing to have a great time together in our year 3 bubble. We have had great fun in science; we have become quite skilled scientists! We've been conducting investigations on our rocks and have learnt lots about their physical properties. We've investigated density, durability and even looked at how porous they are and whether they react to vinegar!! We've had great fun!! We have even created amazing sculptures with them.

Our 'happy jars' are progressing well; we will be bringing these home when we have finished them. Each will be filled with positive comments about us and decorated as per our designs. I hope they bring many happy emotions for the children as we continue through this wonderful pandemic!!

I understand many of you have had difficulty accessing the activity I put on 'Teams' last week; I have had a look and sorted the problem so hopefully you should be able to access the activity!!

We are currently working hard on times tables as I feel many of the children are forgetting these. Please could you continue to help your child learn the 2 and 5x tables (believe it or not, many have forgotten them). We have a 'times tables challenge' in class and award a sticker to the chart whenever the children have learnt one. They need to be able to recite the times table and know them randomly too; this seems to be proving tricky!! We aim to know times tables up to at least 8 x tables by the end of year 3!

I haven't been putting homework on the blog up until this week as I have wanted to give the children time to settle into year 3 without feeling overworked at home. I have asked them all, however, to continue reading to you every day and to learn these times tables. I will begin adding homework each Friday to the blog from this week; keep an eye out on Friday!!

Here are just a few of our photos.....

Have a lovely week! I'll be in touch on Friday.

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews
