Here are some lovely photos taken by Mrs Pearce in the woodland area this week. The children were having a wonderful time digging and collecting soil samples for our science investigations, whittling and upgrading the bug hotel. They also enjoyed an impromptu game of Vikings and Anglo Saxons!

Good evening everyone!

Here are just a few photos, as promised, from our fabulous Viking Day. Many thanks to Mrs Pearce for organising so many of our wonderful resources, including all the brilliant costumes the children wore. Thank you too to Miss Littler and Miss Hewitt for all your hard work on Wednesday and also, and most importantly, thank you year 3 for being such wonderful Vikings. It was such a pleasure to share a brilliant day with you all.

The children enjoyed many activities including; designing and making Viking shields, Viking brooches, Thor's hammers and coins made with clay, weaving, learning about Viking runes as they enjoyed a treasure hunt and making the most wonderful longhouse too. It has become the central feature in our forest!

Here are some of the photos;

Good evening everyone!

I have really missed being in class with the children this week and can't wait to be back with them all, bright and early on Monday morning. The children have worked incredibly hard all week with Miss Monday, Mrs Lindley, Miss Litter and Miss Hewitt. They have all commented on what a wonderful class year 3 are; I totally agree and am so proud of them, as I am sure you are!

The children have continued to learn lots and lots about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and we're very much looking forwards to working outdoors on lots of fun and exciting activities on Wednesday, our Viking Day. The children do not need to come dressed up at all; we are providing them all with a Viking tunic for the day and will be adding to their outfit as they make lots of additions over the course of the day. We are working outdoors all day if we can so please do send your child in their P.E. kit as usual, but I would suggest joggers/tracksuit bottoms (black if possible) and a school sweatshirt to go over their P.E. t-shirts and a waterproof coat. The children can come in trainers but if you'd like to send wellies too, you can, as we'll be aiming to go into our forest area.

I haven't been in school to be able to take photos for you this week but we will post some next week of the Viking Day for you to enjoy. Here's just one photo to show you how far the children are getting with our garden area. This week the children took our beans outdoors to plant them in the garden. It did hail as soon as they were planted though, so we are keeping our fingers crossed they survive!!! Again, many thanks to Mrs Pearce; your green fingers are invaluable!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

See you on Monday,

Mrs Matthews

Good afternoon everyone!

Another wonderful week in Year 3! The children are becoming more and more green fingered by the minute!! They are absolutely loving their gardening sessions with Mrs Pearce on a Wednesday; they're growing sunflowers, carrots and radishes, to name but a few! This week they have created their very own 'Steve the Scarecrow' to protect their handy work too! He looks amazing! I keep thinking there's someone watching us from outside the classroom window though!! If he scares away the crows, he can definitely stay!!

The children are loving our Anglo-Saxon and Viking history and have been learning exciting ways of writing short pieces of wonderful writing all about the experiences the monks or villagers are likely to have had during invasions. We have been working hard on perfecting joined up writing and improving spelling and punctuation too.

The children are becoming incredible athletes too; in P.E. they are not only superb cross country runners, but also wonderful sprinters, hurdlers, javelin, shot put and discus throwers!! Watch out Olympics 2034, here we come!!!

Here are a couple of wonderful gardening photos from this week;

The children absolutely loved creating 'Steve'; he has become quite a superstar and a wonderful feature in our garden!

Thank you Mrs Pearce for all your wonderful hard work with the children in the garden; they love every minute!

Have a super weekend everyone!

See you soon,

Mrs Matthews x

Good evening everyone!

Year 3 have had a fabulous week once again! They have thoroughly enjoyed helping Mrs Pearce in our garden area in front of school. They have loved every minute; weeding, digging, planting and watering. I can't wait to see all their wonderful vegetables growing!

They have continued to impress us all with their artistic skills too; this week the children have created more amazing Cezanne inspired paintings.

Our Anglo-Saxon and Viking topic is certainly going down well too; the children are loving every minute and learning so many amazing facts.

P.E. has been great fun this week; the children have now developed some super skills in althletics (hurdles, javelin and shot putt, to name just a few!!)

Here are a couple of photos of the children enjoying their gardening!

Have a super weekend!

Mrs Matthews
