11.2.20 Mathletics and Town Hall visit

admin on: Class 3

Good morning!

We have been focusing on measuring this week in maths so I have recommended 3 related activities on 'Mathletics' this week; 2 on measuring length and 1 on mass. We will be working on mass later this week. Again I've also sent home a spelling task; please also encourage your child to learn some of those spellings, based on the rule being focused on. I'll quiz the children on a few of them on Friday.

We are very much looking forwards to our Town Hall visit on Thursday morning later this week as we're keen to show off all the singing practise we have been doing in class! If you have a free morning and would like to join us at the workshop for the morning please do let me know either today or tomorrow.

Thanks so much

Week ending 31.1.2020

admin on: Class 3

Good afternoon!

This week we have been working really hard to develop our understanding of equivalent fractions; I think the use of very tasty chocolate on Friday to demonstrate this finally did the trick!! I wonder why!!! In view of this I have set 2 activities on 'Mathletics' surrounding 'fractions' again this week; the first is 'equivalent fractions' and then 'comparing fractions'. Please support your children to try each of these activities. Any further Mathletics activities he/she wishes to try will be an additional bonus; they really do help with maths progress.

I have also once again sent home a spelling activity for the children to complete; this week focusing on different word endings. I find asking the children to complete the activities as they learn the spelling rules really makes a difference. Keep practising!

The children are making super progress on their reading, but please do continue to listen to your child read aloud every day as this too makes such a difference.

We're all thoroughly enjoying practising the songs we will be performing in the Town Hall on the 13th Feb, however any practise at home would be very helpful too. The songs are as follows;

I got rhythm

Rhythm of the rain

Rhythm is gonna get you

Can't stop the feeling

Power in me

Jai ho

Shosholoza

The children are really enjoying practising them every day; why not have a sing-song at home too!!

Thanks so much for all your help and support at home. Please don't hesitate to call in and see me if you have any worries at all.

Thanks so much

Mrs Matthews

Week ending 24th January

admin on: Class 3

Good evening everyone!

Where is the time going? I can't believe it's already the end of week 3; it will be Spring weather before we know it!! We've all been very busy in year 3; we now know everything there is to know about 'natural disasters' and have loved every minute! Our volcanoes are complete and are currently on display in school; they will erupt at the end of the half term!!! I've added a few photos below to show you just some of the fun we've been having!!

Thank you so much for all the hard work you're doing with the children on spellings; the children certainly seem to be learning the spelling rules much better already. This week I've sent home another spelling activity surrounding 'double letters' (for words with endings other than 'le). I've also spoken to the children about selecting any activity on 'Mathletics' they feel they need practice on. As we are currently working on fractions though, I've highlighted some activities that would be really beneficial to try first. Please encourage your child to work on as many Mathletics activities as he/she can as it really does improve their confidence in maths and the children are rewarded with certificates too!

I am encouraging the children to continue to read aloud to an adult (or big brother or sister) at home every evening; please continue adding a note in your child's reading diary whenever you've read together.

I will be sending home some log-in details for 'Timestables Rockstars' tomorrow too; I am sure the children will love logging on and having a go; they usually become quite competitive with it too! Good luck! It will be a fun way to help your child develop more confidence with timestables- we're working hard on them in class.

Here are just a selection of photos!

Do get in touch if you have any concerns at all about anything!

Thanks again,

Mrs Matthews

Visit from Mr Curly Wurly

admin on: Class 3

21st January 2020

This morning we had a visit from Mr Curly Wurly. He is a therapy dog who has been coming into school for a while now. We asked some fantastic questions that really got him thinking! He then helped us with our PSHE work, where we were looking at who is special to us, what makes a good friend, how we can be good friends (to dogs as well) and how to resolve conflicts between friends. Thank you for visiting us Mr Curly Wurly, you can come back anytime!

Australia Crisis

admin on: Class 3

15th January 2020

Both children and staff are very aware of what has been happening in Australia concerning the bushfires. The School Government have come up with a fundraising idea to raise money to help all the animals that have been burned or injured. The WWF-Australia say that it has been estimated that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia to date. This includes thousands of koalas and other iconic species such as kangaroos, wallabies, kookaburras, cockatoos and honeyeaters burnt alive, and many thousands more injured and homeless. For more information visit https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/bushfire-emergency#gs.rrws96.

As a school, we are planning to walk the equivalent of the distance from Sydney to Canberra, which is 288 km or as close to this as possible across next week. We will be collecting donations on Friday 24th where we will see if we can fill an outline of Australia.

We really would appreciate the support and keep your eyes peeled for updates on our school blog.

Thank you,

The School Government
