Good morning! How was your day yesterday? I hope you had a good go at the activities I set you. Here's the suggested timetable for today:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20mins (remember to record your reading in your reading record)

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing guiding a PE lesson at 9am (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Break - go outside if you can, play your favourite board game.

PE

Music

Free choice (could you design a name and a logo for your home school?)

Maths

LO: Multiply using arrays

Here are today's 6 questions...

1) 8 + 53 =

2) 46 – 19 =

3) 5 + 30 + 5

4) 20 ÷ 4 =

5) Write thirty-three in digits =

6) ½ of 20 =

Can you create an array of 3 rows of 5 counters (perhaps beads, coins, smarties - whatever is available!). Write the number sentence that it shows and then the other facts that you know. Here's an example:

3 x 5 = 15

5 x 3 = 15

15 ÷ 3 = 5

15 ÷ 5 = 3

Do at least 10 of these for me in your yellow book, you could also take photos of your arrays to stick in your book.

Literacy

Have a look at this powerpoint together and answer these questions in full sentence in your yellow book:

1)         If your clothing catches on fire what should you remember to do?

2)         What should you never do during a fire?

3)         How might you get to your nearest exit?

4)         Should you go back into a burning building?

5)         What number should you ring in an emergency?

Don't forget to practise your spellings on Spelling Shed again today.

P.E.

Can you set up your obstacle course using balancing, throwing and running techniques, if you have a garden you could do this outside. Why not time yourself doing the course and ask someone to take photos of you!

Music

I've set you a 2DO on PurpleMash - check it out here:

I hope you enjoy everything that I have set for you. Keep smiling!

Remote Learning Monday 23rd March 2020

admin on: Class 2

Hello everybody! I hope you're motivated to learn today. Before I go onto today's lessons, I've got a few things that might be useful at home. If you click here you will find a visual timetable. If you click here you will find a selection of reward charts that you may wish to use! So, please complete the activities in your own time, using the yellow book I sent home to record any work. Remember you have your English Skills and Schofield and Sims Maths workbook if you finish my tasks and would like more to do!

Suggested timetable for today:

Break - go outside if you can, play with your toys, build a Lego model.

History

Free choice (could you bake?)

Maths:

LO: Doubling/halving

6 Questions...

  • 37 + 5 =
  • 89 – 21 =
  • 10 + 20 + 10 =
  • 8 ÷ 2 =
  • Write forty-seven in digits.
  • ¼ of 16 =

Use a pack of cards with your adult and say the double of each number. Then complete this worksheet.

Literacy:

Spelling words: sadness, lateness, kindness, foolishness, goodness. Unfortunately, I can't add our normal Star Spelling video to the blog, but I've added the transcript here:

You could try to act it out yourself! I've put these words into SpellingShed, so you can practise them there, but also write them out in your yellow book in your best handwriting, then use them in a sentence.

Now, we've been learning about Samuel Pepys, who became famous for writing a diary about The Great Fire of London. Yet, when he wrote it, it was just for himself. Little did he know that one day it would be used as an historical source. So, I'd like you to write your own diary - one day it might be use as a document of what life was like for school children during the pandemic. This doesn't have to be long, just a few sentences about how you feel, what you have planned, what might be happening in your house. I'm going to do the same.

History

Have a go at this game: http://www.fireoflondon.org.uk/game/

I hope you have a good first day - please remember to keep washing your hands, keep being kind and patient and let me know how you are getting on!

An emotional day...

admin on: Class 2

Well I have to say that today has been one of the most difficult in my career so far, saying goodbye to the children this afternoon was very emotional and I'm sorry that I couldn't hold back the tears. Things are going to be different from now on and change is difficult for us all but I aim to make things as fun as possible. I'm not setting any homework for this weekend but I'll be starting home learning from Monday - so check the blog on Monday. I hope you've had chance to have a look at your remote learning packs. PLEASE, PLEASE keep commenting on the blog so I don't feel like I'm talking to myself! I saw this on social media and felt it said everything I wanted, so I'm just going to copy and paste it here:

You might be inclined to create a minute by minute schedule for your kids. You have high hopes of hours of learning, including online activities, science experiments, and book reports. You’ll limit technology until everything is done! But here’s the thing...
Our kids are just as scared as we are right now. Our kids not only can hear everything that is going on around them, but they feel our constant tension and anxiety. They have never experienced anything like this before. Although the idea of being off of school for 4 weeks sounds awesome, they are probably picturing a fun time like summer break, not the reality of being trapped at home and not seeing their friends.
Over the coming weeks, you will see an increase in behaviour issues with your kids. Whether it’s anxiety, or anger, or protest that they can’t do things normally - it will happen. You’ll see more meltdowns, tantrums, and oppositional behaviour in the coming weeks. This is normal and expected under these circumstances.
What kids need right now is to feel comforted and loved. To feel like it’s all going to be ok. And that might mean that you tear up your perfect schedule and love on your kids a bit more. Play outside and go on walks. Bake cookies and paint pictures. Play board games and watch movies. Do a science experiment together or find virtual field trips of the zoo. Start a book and read together as a family. Snuggle under warm blankets and do nothing.
Don’t worry about them regressing in school. Every single kid is in this boat and they all will be ok. When we are back in the classroom, we will all course correct and meet them where they are. Teachers are experts at this! Don’t pick fights with your kids because they don’t want to do maths. Don’t scream at your kids for not following the schedule. Don’t mandate 2 hours of learning time if they are resisting it.
If I can leave you with one thing, it’s this: at the end of all of this, your kids’ mental health will be more important than their academic skills. And how they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during those 4 weeks is long gone. So keep that in mind, every single day.
I hope this makes sense, and I will do everything I can to support you all in these uncertain times ahead. Stay safe, stay strong and thank you for all your lovely messages of support.

Homework 13/3/2020

admin on: Class 2

We have worked incredibly hard this week at some incredibly challenging tasks! I'm super proud at how all children have approached telling the time in maths - a life skill that we all need. Some children that were struggling at the beginning of the week are now telling the time at five minute intervals! What an achievement that is!

Newspaper reports are not easy to write but we've done a great job of it this week, focusing on the Great Fire and using quotes from Samuel Pepys. We'll be writing them up in our best handwriting on Monday to display on the wall.

Another thank you to all of who that came to the assembly, it was great to share all our hard work with you.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to singing with the Music for Youth children on Sunday.

Class assembly

admin on: Class 2

I just wanted to say thank you for coming to our first class assembly this afternoon. The children were so excited to share their work with you. If you did take any photos, please could I ask you to keep them for personal use and not put them on social media. Don't forget that next Thursday afternoon we have our PSHE open afternoon and family sharing.
