Next Year

admin on: Class 4

I am absolutely over the moon to be following Class 4 up to Class 5 next year. As a teacher, you develop a bond with each class you teach and it is always sad to say bye to them so to be able to teach this class for another year is a real privilege. They are an amazing bunch of kids and I cannot wait to embark on the next phase of their journey with them.

As their Year 5 teacher, I will ensure there are enough changes in my approach to teaching for them to feel there is a difference from Year 4 whilst still keeping the same key principles I believe in as a teacher. I hope the combination of familiarity and a new year group complement their progress and development as the next generation of wonderful minds. It’s not often a teacher gets to follow their class up, so I know I’ll be seizing this unique opportunity with vigour!

If you would like to discuss anything with me, my door is always open. I look forward to discussing Year 5 with you at our curriculum evening on the 15th July.

As always, thank you for your support and I can’t wait to continue working alongside you and your children for another year!

Homework due 21.6.19

admin on: Class 4

The homework this week is:

1.) IXL maths - S8 and S9 on money. This is revision of money and solving problems involving money.

2.) IXL English - Revision of word types in preparation for the grammar test in a couple of weeks. B1 on nouns, D1 on verbs, F3 on adjectives, F5 on adverbs, G1 on prepositions and H2/H4 on conjunctions. Just spend half an hour trying out some of these activities. They don't all have to be completed as the children have done these activities before.

3.) Spellings: Strength, suppose, surprise, therefore, though, although, thought, through.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Homework due 14.6.19

admin on: Class 4

Good morning!

The homework this week is:

1.) IXL Maths U6 which requires the children to complete bar graphs.

2.) IXL Maths F7, F8, F9, F10. These activities are for children to practise their 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables. This is in preparation for a times tables assessment next week. As I have mentioned earlier in the year, from next year all Year 4 children will be required to complete a national times tables assessment. We are opting in to trial it this year. Please note this isn't deemed as a national test this year and results will not be published nationally. It is seen as a tool this year to aid teachers diagnose which children still need additional support with their times tables.

All the children in the class have had a practice this week and it came to my attention that some children still need a bit more practice with these times tables. The assessment is designed to test fluency so the children only have 6 seconds to answer each question. If your child is already fluent with these times tables, then this homework isn't essential. But if you feel your child does need some more practice with these times tables, please ask them to complete these IXL tasks. In addition to this, on your child's PurpleMash login, I have assigned a multiplication checker task which is set out exactly the same as the national times tables assessment. This could also be completed if you wish.

After the assessment next week, I will send information home with your child if there are still times tables that they are not fluent in. I would be grateful if you could help your child learn these times tables in the next few weeks and over the holidays. The children will find other areas of maths so much more accessible once they know all their times tables.

The spellings this week are:

Regular, reign, remember, sentence, separate, special, straight, strange

Have a fantastic weekend!

Happy Half Term!

admin on: Class 4

It has been such a short term but the children have worked really hard! I have seen them produce their best piece of writing all year on the water cycle. They really are experts on the water cycle now.

Also, thank you very much for your presence at the Cliffe House evening last night. Please do come and see me if you have any more questions.

Homework this half term is:

1.) IXL maths M12 on multi-step word problems. These are quite difficult but we have been looking at similar ones in class and I have encouraged the children to take their time. I explained that if they treat it like a question in a reading test (where they have to really understand the question), the maths behind it is actually fairly straightforward.

2.) IXL English J4 on capitalization.

3.) Potatoes, pressure, probably, promise, purpose, quarter, question, recent.

Have a lovely break!

Mr. K

Fair and Funky Workshop

admin on: Class 4

Today, we had Fair and Funky in to teach us how we can make small changes to our lives to help us be more sustainable. They taught us about recycling and we used a recycled milk bottle to make a piece of art. In addition to this, they taught us about the importance of renewable energy. To demonstrate this, the children were allowed on an exercise bike which powered a smoothie maker! They made their own smoothie as a healthy and sustainably made snack!
