Happy New Year

admin on: Class 4

Happy New Year and welcome back!

This week we have been straight back into it to blast away those January cobwebs! In English we have started our new novel, 'The Shark-Headed Bear-Thing'. It is a very funny book which the children have really taken to. We are writing a character description to describe the strange creature. Ask your child what the monster looks like, it's certainly grotesque!

We have also started our new Science/DT topic on electricity. The children found out about the dangers of electricity and the difference between battery and mains powered electricity. If your child wants to get ahead, next week we are learning about Thomas Edison, so if they want to find out some facts about him they will be prepared for next week's lesson.

The homework for this week is:

1.) IXL Maths on rounding P.1 and P.2.

2.) IXL English on suffixes and prefixes K.3 and K.4.

3.) This week's spellings are: collision, confusion, decision, division, explosion, invasion, revision, television.

Have a fantastic weekend and thanks as always for your support!

Mr. Kershaw

Merry Christmas!

admin on: Class 4

Wow! What a term it has been! I have had the best time with this class so far. From sweet making to Egyptian Day, this term has given me so many opportunities to get to know your children.

This half term we have been lucky enough to have Miss Quarmby with us, a PGCE student from the University of Huddersfield. Today is her last day, so we sadly are saying goodbye! Thank you to Miss Quarmby for a fantastic few weeks.

A massive thank you to everyone who came to watch our nativity, 'The Inn-Spectors'. I hope you enjoyed it as much as Mrs Matthews and I enjoyed putting it together. Each and every one of the children made us so proud!

I have attached the homework to this blog post. The spellings over Christmas are as follows: fascinate, muscle, descend, ascend, scene, scent, science and scissors.

Have a fantastic Christmas break and thank you so much for all your support. It really is fantastic working here at Netherthong!

Homework due 21.12.18

admin on: Class 4

Hello, I am Miss Quarmby and I have been teaching Class 4 for the past few weeks. This week in maths we have been learning how to interpret pictograms and bar charts. The maths homework this week will involve these to consolidate their learning. IXL - U.5 and U.9.

In English we have been writing up our persuasive writing, the children have been writing to influence people to visit Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. To increase their imagination and persuasive skills it would be nice for them to watch the film this weekend (it is now available on Netflix)

The grammar homework this week will be to complete the contractions section on IXL - I.1 and I.2

Finally, there will be no spellings next week as it is almost Christmas! But there will be spellings to learn over the holidays.

Have a great weekend!

Miss Quarmby.

Homework.

admin on: Class 4

You may have noticed there was no homework set last Friday. This was because we spent most of the morning making sweets and the afternoon preparing for the Winter Fayre.

Miss Quarmby (our University of Huddersfield PGCE student teacher) will be setting homework this Friday, so keep your eye out on the blog for a message from her.

In the meantime, if you would like your child to do some work on IXL this week, section F and J of the maths IXL is on division and multiplication skill builders which will help them improve their times tables.

Sweets!

admin on: Class 4

A big thank you to Lauren, Mrs Rawes, Mrs Aitkin, Mrs Kershaw, Miss Kewley, Mrs Lindley, Mrs Haley-Porteous and Miss Quarmby for helping Class 4 make sweets on Friday.

We had some fantastic results and I was very proud to be selling them at the Winter Fayre on their behalf. Here are some pictures of us making them.
