Wednesday 1st April 2020

admin on: Class 4

Good morning class 4!

It's April Fool's Day and I do believe that you have until midday to play a trick on someone - let me know if you manage to catch somebody out!

Today would have been our last day at Bradley Woods. We would have all been very tired, a little grubby and ready for a good night's sleep. Luckily for you, I'm sure this is not the case today!

Our very last job at Bradley Woods would have been to strip our beds down. Next time your bedding is being washed, why don't you take it off of your bed and take it to the washing machine? If you want a real challenge - have a go at putting your clean duvet cover back on!

Here are some suggestions for today's activities:

Wildlife lovers -

Following on from yesterday's woodland study, why not try to design and make something to help the wildlife in your outside space?

Perhaps you could make a bird feeder from recycled materials (there are lots of examples on the internet) or a bug hotel in the corner of your garden using twigs, leaves and stones. If you have some logs and an old plastic box you could even research how to make a hedgehog house.

Advertise your product -

Once you have designed and made your product to help your garden wildlife, make an advertisement to encourage other people to do the same.

Try to use the following in your advert:

  • A catchy slogan using alliteration, similes or rhyme.
  • A hook or a promise e.g You won't be able to live without...
  • Exaggeration e.g use 'best' instead of 'good'.
  • Eye-catching pictures.
  • Rhetorical questions e.g wouldn't you love to...?
  • Strong adverbs.
  • Positive adjectives - make your product sound amazing.

Have some fun -

We would have been spending the afternoon in school today discussing our trip and playing some games in class. So dig out the board games and have some fun!

I'd really like you to have a go at Battleships - make your own! draw a grid 10 x 10 and label each square on the horizontal axis with letters from A-J. Label the vertical axis with the numbers 1-10. Next, draw out your battleships on your grid (decide how many and what size with your partner). It would be great if you could arrange to play with a friend, maybe using Zoom? This is a great way to practise using co-ordinates (maths whilst having fun!).

I look forward to seeing your photos - keep an eye out for yesterday's, I'll upload them today.

Have a great day, missing you all!

Good morning Class 4!

I wanted to start today by saying thank you for all of the amazing photos and videos that you have been sending. It's great to see so many of you having a go at the suggested activities. Later today, I will have a go at putting some of the pictures on the blog.

This would have been day 2 of our Bradley Wood trip and I'm quite sure that you would have been waking up a little more tired than you are now! We are sticking with the same theme this week and trying to suggest activities linked to the work that we would have been doing.

Buggy building -

OK, I'm not expecting anyone to design and build a fully working go-kart but I would like you to get creative! Buggy building could be anything from making a model of a vehicle to creating a vehicle that actually moves. Your buggy could be tiny or life size. It could be made from materials found in the recycling bin, bits of wood from the garage or made using chairs, cushions, blankets and boxes.

I look forward to seeing your creations!

Woodland study -

You don't actually need a woodland for this, any outside space or even looking out of a window will do.

At Bradley Woods we would have been bug hunting and finding out more about the insects that inhabit the woodland. As an alternative you could study any of the wildlife around your home.

If the weather allows, you could have a good look around your garden to see how many different insects and arachnids you can spot. Try holding a light coloured cloth under a tree and shaking the branches - do any insects land on the material? Do you know what they all are? Research your findings and create an insect and arachnid fact file.

If you have a pond, you could do a spot of pond dipping (with an adult please). You will be surprised how many tiny creatures live in the bottom of a pond! Again, you could research your findings and create a fact file.

My personal favourite would be to do some bird spotting. How many different species of bird visit your garden? Can you name them? If not, find out their names and some information about them. Do the birds visit alone or do they come in groups? Can you find out the collective nouns for the types of birds you spot? Present your findings in an imaginative way.

Remember, you still need to be a good camp mate so help out as much as you can with some jobs at home. Well done to Charlie S and Orla, I hear that you were a great help yesterday!

Have a wonderful day, stay safe and keep smiling!
