I hope you are all ok and staying safe. I'm still staying at home. We are having fun and having extra cuddles here.
I had a really special weekend because it was my 10th birthday! Wow, I ate so many sausages! I had loads of balloons, a sausage cake and a dinosaur party with games! We even had dog music, my favourite. Lucky for me the weather was lovely and we got to have a picnic in our garden. I wore a party hat but only for a few minutes because it made my ears tickle. My family asked me to wait to open my presents until the morning and it was hard because I could sniff the tasty treats inside! Afterwards, I had a lovely long sleep and dreamt about running and barking to the hokey cokey. I enjoy that dance and know all of the moves.
I can't wait until I see you again at school and we can chat about our time staying at home and all the things we've done with our families. I hope you and your families are ok and hope to see you woofy soon.

Good morning!
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. We have been very busy in the Kendal household. Will is currently working hard on his Africa topic so on Saturday we went for an elephant ride. Here's Sophie and Will exploring the African plains!
We have also had a very big spring clean and painted the garden fence.
Now onto this week...
Miss Watkins and I have been thinking about the tasks for this week and we have decided to have a break from our 'wild' topic (although we are extremely impressed by all of the wonderful work we have seen so far).
If we had been at school, you would have been having the day off on Friday to celebrate a very special VE day anniversary. The country would have joined together to hold street parties, community gatherings and services of thanksgiving. Obviously, things have had to change but that does not mean that we have to miss out on the celebrations altogether!
This week we would like to spend time learning about this extremely important, historical event before hopefully having our own stay at home celebrations on Friday.
A good place to start would be by doing some research to answer these questions:
- What does VE stand for?
- Why do we celebrate VE day?
- How was the first VE day celebrated?
- Why is this year particularly special?
You could also find out:
- Which countries formed the allied nations during WWII?
- Who were the two British Prime Ministers during WWII?
- Why does VE day not mark the end of WWII?

Get your thinking caps on!
I would like you to plan a party for your family to take place on Friday. You can decide on the type of party (tea party, garden party, picnic etc).
When you have decided on the type of party, you can then begin making your party invitations to give to your family members.
Your invitation should include:
- The name of the person you are writing to.
- The type of event.
- The date.
- The time.
- An RSVP and a location to send it to eg. Tom's bedroom.
- Lots of decoration!
Art:
In order to throw a good stay at home party, you will need some decorations! Traditionally, bunting displaying the Union Jack is used - I wonder if you could make your own? As poppies are a symbol of remembrance, they can also play an important role in VE day celebrations. They can be made using egg cartons or plastic drinks bottles.

Hello lovelies,
Wow! It is the first of May and the weekend is nearly upon us. I wonder what it will bring? In my house I guess it will be a dog walk or bike ride, possibly some baking if we can find some flour , a film maybe (any suggestions of good ones that Teddy and Florence would like would be good!) and a bit of Lego too. What will you get up to? Just in case you had missed it - here we all are and we really do miss you all.
English – Have a go at the next spelling challenge 2Do in Purple Mash. Then have a go at this comprehension. It is all about making a Wormery.
You could print out the answer sheet to write on or you could just write the answers in your book.
Maths – We are going for a little time tables today to keep us on it! Have a go at a speed table and tell me your time and if you get in. That would be amazing. I wonder if we could tell Mr Clayton that we have our 16 in? I have put your speed tables sheets on to help you if you need some more. I have also set a TT Rockstars tournament – Boys v Girls. It is set for a week. See how you go!
I thought you might like a game. If you can, find a pack of cards and a partner (or yourself). Pick a card each from the top of the pack and multiply the two numbers together (Jack, Queen and King can still be used – 11, 12 and 13). You can write it as a sum in your book if you would like. Make a note of the answer to each sum you do. The winner is the person with the largest total at the end. If you can’t find any cards, you could use a die. I wonder who will win?
French – If you haven’t tried already, log onto Duolingo. Try a few of the games and challenges on here. You could try to speak some French at home or even write down a few sentences that I could have a go at translating.
PSHE – Consider the following question – Is it worse to fail at something, or never attempt it in the first place? You could discuss it with someone at home and maybe even have a debate about it. Don’t fall out though! You could make a list of arguments for and against.

Thursday 30th April

Hi everyone, well it was due to happen, but the weather has turned on us! Nevermind, as we always do, we will make the most of it. We have been trying to sort the garden out and spending a lot of time outside. Now I think it is insides turn. The problem is where to begin?
Please don’t forget that these are only guidelines and suggestions of things to complete and don’t necessarily need completing on the day.
I thought that you could start your day with some ERICS time. What are you reading? Are you enjoying your book? What has been your favourite part so far? I have been reading lots. I find it helps me sleep at bedtime. Teddy is reading Peter Crouch’s book and Florence is reading Molly Moon and the Monster Music. I think they are enjoying them. I would love to hear what you are reading.
English – I have been brave and tried to set you a spelling quiz as a Purple Mash 2D list. Have a go and see if you can complete the task. I would then like you to use the words to create some great sentences using the words. I would also like to see that you are using you very best handwriting to do this. Maybe you could add speech marks in one (make sure that you use the correct punctuation) or try adding a conjunction to extend your sentence.
Maths – Today, I have (I think that it will work) set you a Daily 8 as a 2Do on Purple Mash. Give it a go.
I would like to you to have a go at this. You could either print it out or just copy your answers down into your book, your choice.
Geography - You have had a think about your local area. Now I would like you to have a think about an area that you know well that is further away from home. It could be somewhere that you go on holiday to or where another member of your family lives. Have a think about the facilities in the place you have selected. Can you draw, write or add photographs of some of the facilities in the village or town. Have a think why they are important to the area, what service does it provide for the community?
Music – Just to end on a high note – 30th April is International Jazz Day. Have a listen to some amazing Jazz music. It is one of my Dad’s favourite styles of music. I wonder what you will think of it?
