Good morning!

We have been making the most of the sunny weather by spending lots of time in the garden and getting lots of jobs done. My husband is running out of things to jet-wash and I try not to stand still for too long outside in case he decides to jet-wash me! I hope that you are all managing to get lots of fresh air and exercise too.

Here are today's suggested activities:

English:

Have a go at a Litz Blitz today. You will find one in your 2do list on Purple Mash.

Today I would like you to start a project on your favourite animal. This is your project so you can present it however you would like. Perhaps you could make a booklet with a front cover, diagrams and lots of interesting information or a fact-file with a picture in the middle and information around the outside. If you like using the computer, then a PowerPoint presentation would be another idea.

As this is a project, I would not expect it to be completed all at once - you can keep adding to it over the week.

Maths:

Lots of you managed to complete yesterday's daily 8 questions on Purple Mash, well done. There is another one in your 2do list for today.

Yesterday you had a go at solving addition and subtraction calculations. Today I would like you to practise using the inverse.

In maths, we use the inverse to check our answers. The inverse is an operation that reverses the effect of another operation.

Have a go at the questions below:

Topic:

Can you invent a new creature by combining different body parts of other animals. For example your new creature could have the ears of an elephant, the teeth of a crocodile, the body of a chicken, the tail of a fox and the feet of a camel!

Draw what your new creature looks like.

If you are feeling super creative today, you could raid the recycling bin and build a model of your new creature. Don't forget to give it a name.

 Have a wonderful day.

Love from the year 4 team xx

Monday 27th April 2020

Monday again! Where are these weeks going?

Thank you for all of the lovely emails that we received last week. It really is great to hear from you all whether you are sharing work or simply just saying hello. It is really important that we hear from either you or your family at least once a week. This is so that we can check that you and your family are safe and happy.

With that in mind from this week on, if we have not heard from you by each Thursday, we will be contacting you either by phone or email just to check that you are okay.

As a school, I hope that you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community. If there is anything that we can do to support you or your family in any way, please let us know and we will endeavour to put something in place.

A reminder that our email is class4@netherthongprimary.co.uk

Here are today's suggested activities:

English:

Have a really good look at the picture below:

Use this picture to produce some creative writing. There are no right or wrongs with this task - let your imagination guide you!

Have a think about these questions to help you get started:

Why is there a zebra in the middle of the horses?

Where are these animals?

What happened before this picture?

What happens next?

Is this a happy or sad picture?

You could write a story based on the picture or a diary entry from the point of view of one of the animals or maybe from someone not in the picture. You could even write a piece of poetry based on standing out from the crowd or what it feels like to be different.

As always, I look forward to seeing where this takes you.

Maths:

I have been experimenting with Purplemash this weekend and I have set a 2do for you to have a go at. You will find your daily 8 questions set out in a quiz format. Have a go and let me know what you think.

Today can you practise your mental addition and subtraction strategies?

You can use 2-digit numbers, 3-digit numbers, 4-digit numbers or a combination of all 3!

Try and make a game out of it. Choose two of the numbers from the grids below and either add or subtract them.Space the numbers 0-9 out on the floor and throw pebbles onto the correct digits to show your answer.

For example:

461 + 26 = 487       you would throw pebbles onto the digits 4 , 8 and 7

We have played a similar game at home but used Nerf guns to shoot the correct answers! You may prefer to just write the calculations down - whatever works best for you is fine with me.

Science:

A vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. There are 5 classes of vertebrate: reptiles, mammals, birds, fish and amphibians.

Can you think of two different types of animal to fit under each of the five headings? You may need to find out the difference between a reptile and an amphibian.

Now can you make a classification tree to identify each animal. Below is an example (some of these animals are not vertebrates, see if you can spot them):

Have a wonderful day.

Can we begin by saying how amazing you all are.  It is so lovely to hear from so many of you.  We really appreciate everything that you are able to do.  Please remember that these are only guidelines to help support you at home.  We would also like to say thank you to all of you who are keeping in touch regularly, either by emailing us direct at  class4@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on a blog. We are all missing you all so much.  We are going to begin, this week to get in touch with those of you we have not heard from yet to ensure that you are happy and keeping busy during these strange and unsettling times.  Those of you that we have not heard from since we were forced to close, we will begin to ring next week.  So from Monday 27th April, we would love to hear from each of you to ensure that you are all keeping well.

As a school, we hope you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community.
Again thank you all for keeping in touch.  We are all missing you.
You are amazing!  (Have I said this yet?)
Here are some of your images from last week.  We have had a couple of amazing video interviews!  I am working on a way to share these too!
