Hello from Mr Curly Wurly

Woof Woof!

Hello to all the children and staff at Netherthong Primary School,

It's Mr Curly Wurly here and I want to say hello to you all.

Lots of things are different for me at the moment and I've heard it's different for you too so I hope you're all ok and staying safe. I miss you all and hopefully very soon I'll get to see you again. I'm very happy that we've got sausages and my toys at home to play with because we have to stay at home for a while. Sometimes I'm reading books too especially when there's a dog in the story. I'm getting very good at drawing and shapes.

I'm thinking about you all and your families.
I hope to see you soon and take care of yourselves.

Love and paws
Mr Curly Wurly

Good morning Class 4!

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend with your families, I know I have.

On Saturday night the Kendal family all sat out in the garden, under blankets, waiting for The International Space Station to fly overhead. It was the first time I've ever seen it so I was quite excited! It was a lovely clear night and we got to see Venus as well as lots of constellations. I recommend doing a bit of star-gazing if you get the chance.

Today is the day that we should have been heading to Bradley Woods for fun with our friends and two nights away from home. I'm so sad that this hasn't been able to happen but Miss Watkins and I have decided to think of activities this week which means you won't miss out fully!

Orienteering -

Can you draw a map of your house/garden and use it to create a treasure hunt? You could make clues for brothers, sisters, mums or dads to follow and mark the locations of each clue on your map. Maybe a family member could use your map and make a treasure hunt for you.

Instead of writing clues you could put numbers on your map and the treasure hunter has to visit each number in order - time who can do it the fastest.

Making a den -

Mums and dads will love this one!

Can you make a den (either inside or out) using things you can find around the house? I'd love to see some photos of these and if you'd like to see them shared on the blog please ask an adult to give permission.

Remember, any materials you use must be put away when you have finished!

Spending time with friends -

Not an easy thing to do at the moment but we all need to try and stay in touch with our friends as much as possible.

We have discovered the wonders of 'Zoom' in our house. You can set up a free account using only an email address and it enables a group of people to video call each other (I'm quite sure a number of you are already way ahead of me here!).

Be a good camp mate -

At Bradley Woods we would have been encouraging you to be as helpful as possible. How many jobs in the house can you help out with today?

You could: Make your bed, set the table at meal times, help wash up, load/unload the dishwasher/washing machine etc.

I'm hoping that you already do a lot of these!

Rules to remember -

Have fun, laugh lots and make some memories.

Looking forward to seeing some fabulous photos. Have a great day.

Well another sunny day is expected today, I really hope that you are having some fun times outside. It has been lovely to receive emails from lots of you about what you have been up to.  If possible we would love to share some of these on our blog so we can show the rest of school all of the fun and amazing things that we are all getting up to.  If you do send us pictures (and please keep doing so - we love it) could you let us know if you give permission and we will post some of them at the end of each week on the blog.  Thank you.

We had a lovely evening waiting to spot the International Space Station last night at about half past 8.  If you can and it is not too late, why note see if you can spot it again tonight.  We certainly will be.

Activity - I hope you are not all aching too much after completing Joe Wicks all week!  Just think how fit you will be.  Today have go at Joe, but you could also try another physical activity.  This could be a sport you love or that you wish you could have a go at, you could even invent a new sport.  Maybe send a video of you and your sporting endeavours.

English - We have loved reading your Little Paper Boat stories.  The boat has had so many adventures, from boat races to trips down the River Thames and under London Bridge!  Amazing Year 4!  We love your imagination.

On to today - Have a go at creating a comic strip now for your Little Paper Boat.  You can use the same story, but have a little fun and play around with the layout of it.  Draw yourselves some cartoon images and write some captions and sentences to help move your story on.  Make it fun, colourful and lively.  This combines Art and English which will always make me smile.

Maths - Lets carry on with the theme of Data Handling.  Have a go at answering these questions.  There is no need to print out the activity, just write down your answers.

Once you have completed this, you could have a go a creating a tally chart of your own.  You can decide what you investigate, then turn it into a bar graph.

Art - Oh my favourite!  We have talked about rainbows in art before in class.  Can you remember?  They often represent hope, peace and serenity.

I have attached a couple of famous ones for you.  If you can, research rainbows in paintings.  Can you find me another painting that has a rainbow in it?  If you have not already (Charlie S), create a rainbow image yourself.  This could be just a rainbow or a rainbow incorporated in your picture somehow.

Two wonderful paintings, I am sure you agree.  I wonder what else you will find.

Please don't forget to enjoy the sunshine.  We all had half an hour on blankets in the garden reading our books today.  It was wonderfully peaceful.

Keep in touch and take care.

Thursday 26th March

Well, it was another gloriously sunny day yesterday.  I hope that you all managed to get outside into the fresh air for a little while.  We certainly did - cricket and cycling again for us!  It is wonderful to hear from you all.  It is great that so many of you are being worn out first thing with Joe Wicks or getting mums to join in with your work too.  Keep it up!

Active Learning - Why not start the day with another Joe Wicks session.  We are loving them, but I do ache a little bit afterwards!  You could also have a go at Oti's dance class, or make up a few activities of your own.  I know that Orla has been doing some Gymnastics practice.

English - I have enjoyed reading the Little Paper Boat stories so far.  If you haven't finished them, make sure that you do.  Remember that we love twist at the end!

Here is a Litz Blitz for you to have a go at:

1.  Add a prefix to this root word:  happy

2.  Add the correct punctuation:  I am enjoying the sunshine said Chloe

3.  Can you alter this sentence to add a contraction - I will be working hard today.

4.  Can you write a suffix onto this root word - care

5.  Can you add a noun phrase - The tree in the wood.

6.  Write a sentence with a preposition.

7.  Write a sentence that uses commas in a list.

8.  Write a list of words that could describe the sunshine.

If you have finished your story, have a go at writing an example of the following types of sentences:

                                      - an exclamation sentence

                                      - a question

                                      - a command

                                      - a statement

Try to make these complex sentences.

Maths - Have a go at some data handling today.  Can you create a table of the activities that you have been doing - sports, arts, writing, maths, etc.  Once you have gathered the information try to turn this into a block graph.  You could then ask someone in your house some questions about the graph e.g.  Which has been the most popular activity?  How many time have I completed an art activity etc.

Science - Have a think about some of the food that you eat.  Create a table of the types of food and whether they are a solid, a liquid or even a gas!  Also identify which food items change state when you apply a force to them (heat or cool).  Are there any foods that are gases?

You could also have a little bit of time reading your book.  If the sun stays shining you could sit outside to do this.

You are being amazing and it sounds like home schooling is going well.  We are all missing you and can't wait to get back to normal.  Don't forget to get outside into your garden, whilst the sun is shining where you can, keep safe and have fun.
