Monday again! Where are these weeks going?

Thank you for all of the lovely emails that we received last week. It really is great to hear from you all whether you are sharing work or simply just saying hello. It is really important that we hear from either you or your family at least once a week. This is so that we can check that you and your family are safe and happy.

With that in mind from this week on, if we have not heard from you by each Thursday, we will be contacting you either by phone or email just to check that you are okay.

As a school, I hope that you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community. If there is anything that we can do to support you or your family in any way, please let us know and we will endeavour to put something in place.

A reminder that our email is class4@netherthongprimary.co.uk

Here are today's suggested activities:

English:

Have a really good look at the picture below:

Use this picture to produce some creative writing. There are no right or wrongs with this task - let your imagination guide you!

Have a think about these questions to help you get started:

Why is there a zebra in the middle of the horses?

Where are these animals?

What happened before this picture?

What happens next?

Is this a happy or sad picture?

You could write a story based on the picture or a diary entry from the point of view of one of the animals or maybe from someone not in the picture. You could even write a piece of poetry based on standing out from the crowd or what it feels like to be different.

As always, I look forward to seeing where this takes you.

Maths:

I have been experimenting with Purplemash this weekend and I have set a 2do for you to have a go at. You will find your daily 8 questions set out in a quiz format. Have a go and let me know what you think.

Today can you practise your mental addition and subtraction strategies?

You can use 2-digit numbers, 3-digit numbers, 4-digit numbers or a combination of all 3!

Try and make a game out of it. Choose two of the numbers from the grids below and either add or subtract them.Space the numbers 0-9 out on the floor and throw pebbles onto the correct digits to show your answer.

For example:

461 + 26 = 487       you would throw pebbles onto the digits 4 , 8 and 7

We have played a similar game at home but used Nerf guns to shoot the correct answers! You may prefer to just write the calculations down - whatever works best for you is fine with me.

Science:

A vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. There are 5 classes of vertebrate: reptiles, mammals, birds, fish and amphibians.

Can you think of two different types of animal to fit under each of the five headings? You may need to find out the difference between a reptile and an amphibian.

Now can you make a classification tree to identify each animal. Below is an example (some of these animals are not vertebrates, see if you can spot them):

Have a wonderful day.

Love from Mrs Kendal and the year 4 team xx

Can we begin by saying how amazing you all are.  It is so lovely to hear from so many of you.  We really appreciate everything that you are able to do.  Please remember that these are only guidelines to help support you at home.  We would also like to say thank you to all of you who are keeping in touch regularly, either by emailing us direct at  class4@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on a blog. We are all missing you all so much.  We are going to begin, this week to get in touch with those of you we have not heard from yet to ensure that you are happy and keeping busy during these strange and unsettling times.  Those of you that we have not heard from since we were forced to close, we will begin to ring next week.  So from Monday 27th April, we would love to hear from each of you to ensure that you are all keeping well.

As a school, we hope you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community.
Again thank you all for keeping in touch.  We are all missing you.
You are amazing!  (Have I said this yet?)
Here are some of your images from last week.  We have had a couple of amazing video interviews!  I am working on a way to share these too!

Good morning everyone, I hope the sunshine finds you well.  It is lovely to still have this sunshine.  I hope it last a little longer for us.  We have been busy doing some work with Ted and Florence.  They have been doing lots of different tasks, including some problem solving in Maths and learning about the Salt flats in Bolivia.  They are amazing.

Anyway on to us and today.  Here are some tasks to keep you busy if you fancy.

English - You have been busy working on your biographies and letters to David Attenborough.  I would like you to imagine that you are luck enough to be given the opportunity to interview the great man himself.  What questions would you ask him.  If you wrote your letter today, this could help you.  Can you carry out a Hot Seating activity.  You could write down your questions and then pretend to be David Attenborough and write the answers to the questions in a way you think that he might.  If you were feeling creative, you could act out the interview, take some photos or even video yourself.  Use your wonderful imaginations and see what you come up with.  I look forward to see what you come up with.

Maths -  I would like you to go on Purple Mash.  I have set you a 2To.  It is called Fraction Wall.  Have a go at completing the task.  Then have a go at creating yourself a fraction wall.  You could draw one, build one from Lego, create an outdoors stick wall.  Your choice!  Send your pictures.

Finally today I thought we would do some music.  Take a listen to a wonderful piece of music called Peter and the Wold by the composer Prokofiev.  It is a wonderful piece of music that tells a wonderful story.  Please find a link attached or you could (with some help) find a version yourself.  Listen to the music and try to identify the characters in the story.  You could go one better and try to identify some of the instruments.

Well done this week.  You have, as always been amazing.  Have a wonderful weekend and keep happy and safe.

Hi everyone!  I hope you had an amazing Easter and a great start to the week.

We have had a go at planning and creating an obstacle course around the garden.  That was lots of fun.  I even had a go, which caused lots of laughter, especially when I had to go on the trampoline!  It makes me feel seasick!

Anyway on to today

English - If you have not finished your biography on David Attenborough, carry on and add as much detail as you can.  Dont forget to use the check list that Mrs Kendal added for you.  This is really helpful.

If you have finished your biography, could you write a letter to David Attenborough.  Think about the questions that you would like to ask him or what you might like to tell him about your knowledge or likes.  You could mention books of his that you have read, or the programmes of his that you have watched.  You could also mention the biographies that you have been writing and some of the amazing facts that you have learnt.

Maths - Have a go at solving some of these problems.

Also have a go at a speed table too.  See what your time is now and let us know.

Geography - Have a think about settlements.  Think in particular about Netherthong village.  Have a think about the facilities that the village has, what key features are also in the village.  You could think about the names of some of the streets and think why they might have these particular names.  You could write a list or draw pictures of some of the facilities.

PE - Don't forget to get a little exercise in too if you can.  Our PE this half term is dance.  You could have a go at one of the many online dance classes that are available at the moment, or create your own dance to your favourite piece of music.  You could even link up with some friends to do an online group dance.

Keep safe, keep in touch and have a great day.

Year 4 team
