Good morning Class 2! It was lovely being in school yesterday as I got so many emails from you all and I made a few phone calls too. I hope that when we look back on this time in a few years time, you will have some fond memories about all your adventures and the time you are having with your families. At 11am today there will be a minute's silence to remember NHS workers who have sadly died during the coronavirus outbreak, I hope you will partake.

So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Music

PE

Maths

LO: Add pairs of 2-digit numbers by partitioning or counting on.

  • 35 + 24 =
  • 65 – ? = 38
  • 5 + 35 + 9 =
  • 60 ÷ 10 =
  • Write thirteen in digits.
  • Partition 89 into 10s and 1s.

How did you get on with adding yesterday? Talk to your adult about how you would do: 31 + 46, can you also work out 46 + 31? What can you say about this? Today you could use this number generator to make your own number sentences to complete. The more practise you do, the better!

English

Hopefully, yesterday you had a good conversation about what a legend is. A legend is a story that has some truth in it and the Mousehole Cat is a retelling of the true story of Tom Bawcock which is commemorated every December in the village of Mousehole in Cornwall.

What I'd like you to do today is have a look at this website: https://www.cornwalls.co.uk/mousehole and find out about Mousehole. You could write a few sentences about what the village is like and try to locate it on a map. Now can you answer these questions:

  • Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall between which town and Land’s End?
  • What are local cottages made out of?
  • Which writer described Mousehole as the ‘loveliest’ village in England?
  • Which lifeboat was sadly lost at sea in 1981?
  • How would you describe the streets in Mousehole?
  • Which cove can you walk to on the coastal path?

Music

Last week you were learning the song 'I do like to be beside the seaside'. This week can you use 2explore on PurpleMash to compose your own seaside tune. You could be inspired by the waves and the birds. Save your composition in your file for me to have a listen to!

PE

So last week you were making maps of your house or garden. How did that go? Can you now use your map to create a trail. You could place clues/letters/numbers in locations around your house or garden then draw them on the map. Ask someone to use the map to find all your hidden clues/letters/numbers. Can they then do the same for you?

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Enjoy your work today. Remember to keep in touch, either by emailing me at class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on the blog. I’ll be in touch if I don’t hear from you to see how you are.

Stay safe!

Remote Learning Monday 27th April 2020

admin on: Class 2

Happy Monday everyone. I hope you enjoyed the beautiful sunny weekend. Did you spot any birds? We saw lots in our garden including goldfinches, robins, blackbirds, blue-tits and we spent some time watching the crows annoying a huge buzzard circling the area! We can hear plenty of chicks nesting in the bushes too. Did any of you renew your Scout promise yesterday in honour of St George’s Day?

So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

History

Maths

LO: Add pairs of 2-digit numbers by partitioning or counting on

  • 24 + 54 =
  • 56 – ? = 27
  • 22 + 7 + 18 =
  • 18 ÷ 2 =
  • Write seventeen in digits.
  • Partition 55 into 10s and 1s

Do you remember using the partitioning method to add two numbers, like this:

32 + 24

= 30 + 20 + 2 + 4

= 50 + 6

= 56

Have a go at the number sentences in Part A and then move onto Part B if you have time. Remember to write out the steps as above if you need to.

English

Here are this week’s spellings:

sipping

putting

grabbing

stepping

jogging

slipping

getting

popping

chatting

As usual, you will find these on Spelling Shed and here’s the transcript from Spelling Planet.

Why not write some sentences using these words in your yellow book. Remember to really concentrate and use your best handwriting.

In English this week, we shall be using this book:

It is a beautiful story filled with amazing illustrations. In fact it’s a legend. Before we look at this story, talk with your adult about you they understand a legend to be. How does it differ from a myth? What other legends do you know or can find out about? There’s no need to write anything down if you don’t want to, just research and discuss!

History

I loved hearing about your conversation with your families surrounding seaside holidays. Look at this presentation together and discuss your thoughts. Now, have a look at these pictures cards to find clues about what seaside holidays were like in the past. Record your ideas on the mindmap.

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email me your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Enjoy your work today. Remember to keep in touch, either by emailing me at class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on the blog. I’ll be in touch if I don’t hear from you to see how you are.

Homework 24th April 2020

admin on: Class 2

Have you noticed that more birds are visiting your garden? I know I have! This weekend why don't you do a bit of bird spotting? How many birds can you already identify? Are there some visitors to your garden or outside area that you don't know? You can have a look at the RSPB website to identify birds here. You might want to do a garden bird survey or entice some birds into your garden by making some bird feed. You could just spend a bit of time with your adult/s gazing out of the window and chatting about what you can see. We have a heron that regularly flies over our house and we always shout 'heron!' really loud. We've also spotted plenty of buzzards - although they haven't visited our garden! And we can hear the distinctive call of the pheasants in the fields.

Have fun this weekend with a bit of bird watching and see you back here on Monday!

Thank you to all of you who are keeping in touch regularly, either by emailing me direct, or via a parent (class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk), or by commenting on a blog. I am missing you all very much; this correspondence helps me to understand, as your teacher, that you are happy and engaging with the work that I am setting you. Those of you that I haven't heard from since we were forced out of school, I have been contacting you via the phone or email.

Going forward, from Monday 27th April, this will become a weekly procedure; we want to know that each and every one of you are safe and well (and your families are also). If I haven't heard from each of you by Thursday in some form, I will begin emailing, or ringing you.

As a school, I hope you understand that we are trying to keep in contact with pupils and parents so that we all still feel part of the Netherthong community. If there is anything that we can do to support you and your family in any other way please let me know and we will endeavour to put something in place.
Here are some of the amazing things you've been getting up to this week...

Remote Learning Thursday 23rd April 2020

admin on: Class 2

Good morning my lovely little superstars, Miss H here again!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and didn’t eat too much chocolate! In between enjoying the glorious weather, I have been spending time painting. For Christmas, my sister got me a colour by numbers canvas to paint with a picture of a dog (She said that she had finally got me what I always wanted, my own dog!). I started this over the Christmas holiday but have not had the chance to add to it. I have found this so therapeutic and many hours have been lost while I have painted listening to music on the radio. Here is what it is going to look like …

Here is what mine looks like so far …

Here's the suggested timetable for today:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20mins (remember to record your reading in your reading record)

Active time - Joe Wicks is guiding a PE lesson at 9am (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)

Break – Maybe you could spend some time outside, you could try doing some gardening?

Art

Computing

Science

This half term we are going back to look at the topic of Animals including Humans. Not all animals have babies in the same way. Some animals lay eggs for their babies to grow in while other animals grow babies in their tummies, like humans do.

Research and make a list of some different animals that lay eggs and some different animals that give birth to live young. The worksheet is here:

PSHE

I have been going out in my Grandma’s back garden and clapping on a Thursday night for all of the key workers. Have a go at doing that tonight and be sure you make as much noise as you can! I used a frying pan and wooden spoon last week. Maybe you could make a banner and hold it up while you cheer? Don’t forget to take a picture and send it to us!

Art

In the news on Tuesday, the artist Tom Croft, has painted key workers for free so they have something to remember how everyone has come together and worked as a team. Here is a video link to find out more about what he did:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/entertainment-arts-52319539/coronavirus-artist-tom-croft-paints-nhs-key-worker-portraits-for-free

Today, I would like you to take some inspiration from him and create a picture of the people in your home, so you can look back and remember who you have spent so much time with. You could sketch your picture, make a collage or any other way you think of. Be creative! I look forward to seeing your pictures!

Computing

On Purplemash, we are going to be starting a new unit of work! We are going to start to look at coding.

I have set you a quiz to test your knowledge from last year when you did coding? See how you get on.

Also, I have set an Air Traffic Control task. There are videos at the start of each challenge which explains each task. If you click the hint button, it will show you how to code each object. Any problem, just let me know. Good luck!

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email me your creations! If you don’t have Lego, don’t worry any construction material will do …

Keep Smiling and stay safe!

Miss H
