Wednesday 20th May

Happy Wednesday Year 3!

Thank you so much for all your lovely messages, photos and all your wonderful hard work. What a team we have!

Speaking of team Mrs Matthews, Miss H here and I would like to present the book that we made last week about our hobbies!

Click the link to have a look ...

Our Hobbies

Here are a few of your photos sent yesterday;

Alfie's fabulous fact file all about his lovely dog Bailey and then working hard to help Mum clean the car!

Oscar's fabulous corn snake, Bubbles, and his super fact file and drawing!

Thank you too Grace for your wonderful writing all about your gorgeous dog Nell; she sounds great fun. Your writing was so neat and tidy Grace too, well done!

Wednesday's activities;

 Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 980 divided by 10
  2. 76 x 100
  3. 3240 divided by 10
  4. 34 x 10
  5. 456 + 30 (look at the tens column)
  6. 678 - 20 (look at the tens column)
  7. Subtract 50 from 375
  8. 372 plus 45 (use columns)

Problem;

Alfie helped to wash 2 cars yesterday! If his Mum gave him £1.25 spending money for washing the first car and £1.85 for washing the second car, how much money did he have altogether?!

Activity;

Today I would like you to try an activity on 'Mathletics'; it is '24 hour times'. We have looked at 24 hour clocks before but it is a little while ago so you will definitely need an adult to help with this one! Remember, if you are converting 12 hour clocks to 24 hour clocks you add 12 if it is an afternoon/evening time and if you're converting 24 hour times in the afternoon/evening to 12 hour times you need to subtract 12 hours. Don't forget that if the time has a zero in front it is a morning time (prior to 10:00am). Have a go and see what you think. Keep practising too!

If you'd like to try the next activity you can; it's 'using a calendar' but the more important one today is the 24 hour times.

French;

Today I'd like you to practise using 'Je m'appelle..........' (I am called/my name is)

I'd also like you to practise using 'J'ai ............ans'   (I am ......years old)

You could begin by drawing yourself and writing both sentences.

THEN draw an invented character; make up a name for it and an age and add these sentences. You could do these 2 sentences for each character you draw (making sure they each have a different name and age!!)

You could be extra clever if you like and choose a colour for the character and then add... 'Je suis ............' (adding the colour in the gap), eg

Je m'appelle Zog. (name)

J'ai neuf ans. (age)

Je suis vert. (colour)

(My name is Fred, I am 9 and I am green)

Here's a few colours to remind you and a few numbers too;

un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix   (1-10)

vert (green), rouge (red), jaune (yellow), rose (pink), bleu (blue), gris (grey)

Literacy;

Can you find my 'time related' conjunction in each sentence? It shows you when an event happened.

  1. I watched a movie before I went to sleep.
  2. Alfie washed the car after he did his maths.
  3. The leaves rustled as we walked along the path.
  4. We stayed in the garden until it got cold.

Activity;

Today I would like you to do some planning towards creating your own simple 'Lockdown Poem'. All I would like you to do today is to think carefully about special things you have done during lockdown that you may not always have usually done (at least not as often); eg

*Clapping on a Thursday for the NHS

*Creating colourful rainbows

*Playing lots of board games

*Joining in with Joe Wicks

Make a list, write them on post-its or strips of paper, for example. Use different coloured pens for each one, but keep these ideas as you will need them tomorrow!!

Geography;

This week I'd like us TO COMPARE SOME OF THE PHYSICAL (or human) FEATURES of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland- the 4 countries of the UK. I'd really like you to use an atlas if you have one (or see the attached map or even use google maps with an adult) to see what differences OR similarities you can detect simply from scanning the maps. This may include the number of motorways (not a physical feature but do still include me), mountains, rivers, lakes etc. Can you make a simple table to show some of these differences/similarities?

Keep reading every day too; share a book with an adult and ask each other questions about the text!

I hope you all have a wonderful day! I think it's going to be a gorgeous day so do have fun outside and let me know what you get up to!

Don't forget to get in touch and let me know how things are going and keep those photos coming!

Thanks so much,

Mrs Matthews

Tuesday 19th May

admin on: Class 3

Happy Tuesday everyone!

It's so good to be back! Thank you so much for all your lovely messages!

I am so proud of you all; you are all working so hard and your work is really great to see! Here are a few photos you sent yesterday;

It was lovely to read all about your exciting pets Max and Arianna!

Here's Laurie's fabulous pizza and look at the lovely path he found through the bluebell woods!

Did you spot Laurie?!

Today's activities involve my maths and grammar tasks, as well as Miss Hemingway's music and PSHE; sounds a busy one!!

Let's get going.....

Maths:

8 questions;

  1. 72 x 4
  2. 63 x 3
  3. 456 divided by 3 (remember to use 'bus stop division' and remember to carry over remaining numbers)
  4. 568 divided by 4 (you'll need 'bus stop' division again)
  5. 35 divided by 5 (you won't need 'bus stop'- just think of your times tables- how many 5's in 35?)
  6. 36 divided by 4 (think of times tables)
  7. 558 plus 27
  8. Subtract 40 from 284 (think about how many 10's you are taking away)

Activity;

We have worked really hard on 'time' recently. Today I'd like to challenge you all to having a go at some time related problems. Remember to read the question carefully and not to rush. Work with Mum or Dad to try and solve them as some could be a little tricky. Please can you try section A or B

Grammar;

Clauses and Phrases; we've looked at these before but I do know many of you found this activity a little tricky as it can be challenging to remember the difference between the two! Remember, a 'clause' is a group of words that makes sense on its own and includes a verb, however a 'phrase' is a group of words that doesn't make sense on its own.

Have a go at the activity and see if you can become more confident at it! You might find Mum or Dad find this a bit tricky at first!!

Computing/PSHE;

Have you written on our Padlet yet? It is looking amazing! Please do keep adding to it as it is making me and everyone smile! Already written on it? Please add more as you will always make someone smile!

Bee Happy - Padlet

Here is what it looks like so far ...

Music;

Enjoy the decade last week, 1950s? Well, this week we are swinging into the 1960s! I have chosen two iconic songs from this decade for you to choose from. We have Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones and Respect by Aretha Franklin. Try learning one or both of these and performing it to people at home! Also, do a little research into music in the 1960s. Here are some questions to help you get started:

  • Which artists were popular?
  • What genre of music was most popular?
  • Which instruments were used most during this decade?

Make notes and let me know how you get on! Here are the links to a YouTube video of the song and the links to the lyrics:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg - Paint it Black

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FOUqQt3Kg0 - Respect

Have a great day everyone; hopefully the sun will shine all day!

Remember to let us know if you have any worries at all and please don't struggle if the workload is too much; select the amount you think you can manage.

Take care!

Love from,

Mrs Matthews and Miss Hemingway!

Monday 18th May

admin on: Class 3

Good morning Year 3!

How are you all? I have missed you all so much and can't wait to get back to posting my daily blogs to you! It has been a very difficult few weeks but I'm so pleased to say I do now feel so much better thanks to our absolutely amazing NHS; superstars, every single one of them! Miss Hemingway has thoroughly enjoyed working with you all once again and has told me how fabulously hard you have all been working. Thank you so much Miss Hemingway for all your wonderful hard work and also Miss Kelly who has been keeping a very close eye on me!!

Sorry Miss H here again with the updated baby guess who ...

Let's get going!!

P.E

Let's begin the day with some physical activity! If you are still enjoying your workouts on YouTube with Joe Wicks please join him at 09.00. These are fabulous workouts!

OR if you prefer, tune into your favourite song and create your own dance. If you have a sister or brother, create a synchronised routine. Once you have perfected it, send me a video via the class 3 email; I'd love to see your final versions!

Reading;

Sit quietly with an adult and read aloud to them, reminding them to ask you lots of questions about the text.

If you prefer, select one of your comprehensions in your pack and read it carefully, before answering the questions.

Literacy and Art;

I have been hearing that lots of you have really enjoyed taking care of your pets during 'lockdown'; some of you have been lucky enough to get a brand new pet! Poppy has really enjoyed having everyone at home; here's just one of the thousands of photos we have of her!

What I'd like you to do is to write a short information text all about your pet (if you have one), remembering to use a heading and sub-headings so that you create different 'paragraphs' of information. Your sub-headings might be, for example;

'Breed and description'

'Diet/food'

'Favourite toys'

'Treats'

'Toys'

'Exercise'

You might want to find out additional information about the breed of your pet using different sources too; for example from non-fiction texts or perhaps the internet (remember to have an adult with you when searching the net).

You can choose your own sub-headings, but do include lots of information and of course, remember to use exciting sentences and fabulous spelling and punctuation. Show me your best joined handwriting too!!!

Can you take a photo of your pet too and then also create a lovely matching picture too; use crayons, pastels, paints or whatever you prefer.

**If you don't have a pet, you could find out all about a pet you would choose if you could. Use information texts or the internet with an adult. Again you can find a picture and then create your own too.

Maths;

8 questions

1.  654 plus 228

2.  882 minus 257

3. Subtract 65 from 729

4. 525 more than 328

5. 30 greater than 245

6. 200 less than 687

7. 564 x 10

8. 4500 divided by 10

Problem; If Poppy had 10 bags of dog biscuits with 26 biscuits in each bag, how many biscuits would she have altogether?

Activity;

A couple of weeks ago we were timing how long it would take different people in your family to do different activities. Today I'd like you to have a go at comparing the lengths of time taken for other activities (see the sheet below). Remember there are 60 seconds in a minute so if one activity took 59 seconds and one took 1 minute and 2 seconds, the first activity would be the shortest/quickest. Here's the activity I'd like you to try so you can practise comparing times taken. You may need to use a subtraction calculation if it asks you how much longer or shorter an activity took (because you'll be finding the difference).

Select just A or B (only select C if you prefer or need an extension);

Have fun and remember not to stress at all about your work; do as much as you can but do take lots of breaks! Keep enjoying those lovely walks, playing games and enjoying being together!

Remember to email me each week and send me photos of yourselves, your pets or some of the activities you have been doing. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns or questions too.

Take special care of yourselves!

Will tune in again tomorrow!

Mrs Matthews

Remote Learning Friday 15th May 2020

admin on: Class 3

It is fun and funky Friday here for Class Three! Remember that today is ‘Uniform Day’, so please send us a picture of you in your uniform!

(By sending in a photo, you consent to it being used within school and on the school website.)

Have a look at our Bee Happy page, it is so heart-warming! Why not try to add something to make someone smile …

Bee Happy - Padlet

Guess who … Please do keep them coming so we can add more!

Here is something from me to you! ...

Last night I tried something that Alfie suggested to me a while ago. I made an ‘Alfie Pizza’. He recommended that we use tortilla wraps as a base! You place one wrap on a baking tray then sprinkle it with cheese before placing the second wrap on top of it. Doubling up the wrap gives it a thicker base and the cheese helps to bind them together. Then, you can add any toppings of your choice. We put peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn and of course cheese! Here is the pizza Alfie made:

Now here is mine …

What do you think? It was so delicious, hope it lives up to standard Alfie! Why don’t you have a go at an Alfie Pizza?

Here is the suggested timetable for today:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins (remember to record your reading in your planners)

Active time - Joe Wicks guided PE lesson at 9am

(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)

Don’t forget GoNoodle:

https://www.gonoodle.com/

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Break – Today is International Day of Families so spend some time with your family either in person or via video call!

Science

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 1/2 of 636
  2. 1/4 of 228
  3. 356 + 69
  4. 595 - 59
  5. 580 divided by 10
  6. 3/9 + 4/9
  7. What is the time now?
  8. What time was it 2 hours ago?

Activity;

Literacy;

It is another fun Friday in literacy! Today we are going to write a story opening. Here is path but where does it lead?

Your task is to write the beginning of a story, describing where this path leads to. No more structure, it is your turn to be creative! Good luck …

Science;

Today we are going to be looking at reflection again but this week, with mirrors.

Have a look through the PowerPoint.

We are going to play two different mirror games. While you are playing the games, think carefully about how the mirrors are reflecting light. You could draw a table in your home school book or use a table that looks like this to record your thoughts:

The first game is called mirror messages. You should use your mirror to write a mirror message for someone.

  1. Write a short message on a piece of paper in normal writing (between one to three words is enough). Then hold a mirror at the right hand side of the page or hold the piece of paper to the right hand side of the mirror, so you can see your message reflected in the mirror.
  2. Copy the message you see in the mirror onto another piece of paper, so that your writing is reversed.
  3. Swap messages with someone, and hold the mirror at the left hand side of the page. Can you read their message in the mirror?
  4. Think about how the mirrors helped you read the messages.

The next game is called Mirror Maze. Outside or in your hall make a wavy line on the floor.

If you can, hold a mirror over your head so you can see the line and your feet reflected in it. If you don’t have a mirror, you could use a camera on a smartphone.

By looking only in the mirror, try to follow the wiggly line from one end to the other.

Take your time when carrying out this task and be very careful. Why does only being able to look in the mirror make this hard?

Thank you all so much for your hard work again this week, I am loving your creativity! I am going to create another collage of pictures tonight of all your fabulous work of the week so keep the emails coming today!

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

Miss H
