Welcome back to the Blogs from Netherthong Reception class.

I have been doing a lot thinking over the holidays (overthinking) and have decided to do a two day blog. This will take the pressure off you and me both.

If you don't manage one day or your child is just not in the mood it's ok. Wednesday will be a little shorter with more science and art activities so you are able to catch up or just take a breath.

If anyone has any ideas to add please email me. It's important to go with the children's interests.

I hope you are all well and have enjoyed the lovely weather. Everyone has up and down days but the most important thing is give yourself space to breathe and to be kind to yourself and others.

In our house we have been out every day walking, running or biking. I only go shopping once a week on my day off, Wednesday. I like to keep to a routine.

We have been busy playing games, baking and keeping fit.

My children also need some time on social media to chat to their friends as it is important for them to keep connected.

OK lets go!

If you could get the fruit associated with the story Handas surprise for this week that would be fantastic!

7 fruits or similar ones to the story.

"Banana, orange, tangerine, pineapple, mango, avocado, passion fruit I use an apple for a guava".

Don't worry what varieties you get as long as there is 7 in total to make the story real.

Here we go!

Monday   20th April

Start with the exercise.

GoNoodle/Joe Wicks/yoga or just a walk round the block.

If you didn't see the Historical book to fill in this is also a good start if you are able to print it off or just use the ideas on the sheets.

We have done this in my house but not all in a day!

Historical account of the time in isolation

Phonics/Reading

Reading a little every day is important. You can choose the best time to do this. Reading their own sentences, sentences in books you are reading together. Sentences or words round the home are all fantastic opportunities to read for meaning.

Recap on digraphs

ch sh th ng nk ay ee igh ow oo 00 ar or air ir ou oy - flash cards are the best way to learn these.

Have a go at this activity. I will be putting on one a day.

Literacy

It is important for the children to talk about their feelings and what is on their mind, things they have enjoyed or not.

They need to be able to talk in  sentences holding the interest of the listener expanding in some detail what they are trying to say.

Ask them what they have enjoyed doing over the last few weeks. The may need prompting. Only a few ideas will be needed.

This will be a nice idea for them to do today as a gentle start back to the home schooling routine.

Then help your child write a few sentences or scribe for them and then they draw a picture of some of the things they did. Then read the sentences back. here are some examples:

I went on a walk in the wood. I planted some seeds in the garden.

I made some round buns. I found a bug in the grass. I can see the birds in the sky.

Number task - We are looking at ordering and and comparing numbers this week to 20

Vocab- order, first, next, after, before, smallest, largest, one, more, one, less, count, right.

Ask your child to fine the number 1-10/20 in order around the home.

e.g on pages in a book,a clock,a microwave, TV remote..............

They could make their own book and number the pages. (Ready to write their own recount of Handa's surprise.)

Make individual towers of bricks 1 2 3 4 ......put in order of height by counting the cubes. Predict how many cubes will be in the next tower?

If you have number cards 1-20 or 30-50 ect. Order these forwards and backwards and horizontal and vertical.

Well done.

Tuesday 21st April

Exercise. - Jo wicks/ Go Noodle/ Yoga

Phonics

Segment the words to hear the sounds.e.g  b-a-th    k-i-ng  sh-e-ll. Check for good pencil control and letter formation.

Literacy

We are becoming familiar with the story of  Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne you can find the story on utube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyIV_xYi0as      - Link

Handa's Surprise powerpoint. - this will help see the story slowly and its a fun powerpoint.

Can you make Handa's hair and body using natural materials?

Now describe her.

e.g Handa is a girl. She has brown skin. She has a pink dress. She has sandals on. She has long black hair.

The can us the word and  to connect two sentences together but this is tricky as they need to remember more!

Read the sentences out to you.

Number

You will need 3 / 4 plastic cups. Add various amounts of pasta/buttons into the cups and see if your child can count accurately the amount in each cup and put them in order.

ext .. Can your child put in oder 3/4 non consecutive numbers? e.g 12  6  17  11

Look on mathseeds for extra work. Also number blocks ordering numbers.

Craft

Have a go at weaving.

This is just one idea, you can use anything including natural materials.

Have fun.

Thank-you for your support.

Holiday fun work book

admin on: Reception

Good morning everyone.

I hope you are still doing your exercise. In my house we have just done the Jo Wicks workout. It is becoming a routine to get us out of bed and we feel great after we have done it.

I found this work book on the internet and thought I would share it as we are going to fill one in at home. If you haven't got a printer then you could make your own book following the questions.

Friday 3rd April

admin on: Reception

Good Morning!

Well it's Friday again and the second week of home schooling.

I can see you have now relaxed more into your new roles. I know many of you are juggling jobs as well like myself.

I will put on some fun things to do over the holiday but I will not be blogging work everyday.

Also I know Miss Hemingway has a treat in store for you all too.

Don't forget, Number blocks is brilliant and so are all the lovely things on Cbeebies and Kids KS1 bbc bitesize (science quiz)

Fun Fun day today.

Go Noodle or Joe Wicks.

Phonics/reading/writing

Here is our Friday Fun phonics

.Reading- Fun Quiz

Treasure Hunt Rhyme

Today you can hide some treasure around the house or in the garden and write your own clues for someone to find it. The other person can hide treasure too, so you can read the clues and find their hidden treasure.

Example of clues.

1.Hop to the steps.

2.Go up the stairs.

3.Skip to the bathroom.

4. Slither to the bedroom.

5.Jump to the corner.

6. Look under the bed!

Repeat as many times as you want to inside and out.

Number - have another go with your number books. There is always maths seed to have a go at too. Pattern work is put on by me. Once complete you can try any other lessons.

Outside you could count how many different flowers you can spot. Can you name them?

On a pre-drawn egg shape decorate it with patterns.

Here are some for you to download and print

.Easter-Egg-Mindfulness-Colouring

You could always make some Easter cards to post next week. Remember to do your best writing and write the address on the front of the envelope.

Watch out for the brain teaser fun on Monday and challenges from Miss Hemingway.

Take care, Keep safe.
