Happy Harvest.

This week we have been retelling the story of the 'Little Red Hen' .

Ask your child to do this for you with actions. We have tasted different breads and made a class hen called ' The helping hands hen' all to do with working as a team!

In mathematics we have been using the language,

big/small

tall/short

more/fewer

The word 'Less' is used when it is one less or in capacity; There is less milk in the glass.

Next week we are researching Autumn and I normally ask the children to bring in objects they find in the woods; leaves, acorns, conkers but with the weather being so warm the leaves have not even started to change colour. Talk to your children about when changes happen in Autumn to the trees, flower, wildlife.

If you do find some please bring them in.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Oddy

What a busy week.

The Autumn weather has now come upon us.

We are looking at the changes that happen in the environment in Autumn so please talk about this to your child when you go out on family walks.

The changing colour of the leaves.

The cold weather and that we have to ware warmer clothes.

The dark nights.

The festivals like Harvest as the farmer are busy collecting their crops from the fields for the supermarkets.

We watched a show all about harvesting carrots, tomatoes and blue berries to make a rainbow salad. Your child might want to make this at home.

Red - Tomatoes

Orange - Carrot

Yellow - pepper/sweetcorn

Green - Salad leaves/cucumber

Blue - Blueberries

We have been sorting different objects in maths and saying why they are sorted in that way.

For example the same shape, colour size.

Our book this week was 'Paper Dolls ' by Julia Donaldson

We designed our own family.

Thank you for your support,

This week we have started learning 5 letter sounds

m a d t d

We can now try and 'blend' 3 sounds together to make little words e.g

mat

sat

sad

mad

Sam

We need to always form our letter correctly so we don't get into bad habits. It doesn't matter how big they are so please practise in many different ways.

Chalk outside, soapy bubbles, finger paint, felt tips and many more creative ways.

Encourage a pincer grip.

We have also had fun noticing  objects that match. In side and outside in the woods. This is the start of our mathematics teaching. The children need to be able to notice change and patterns.

They have had another super week. Well done everyone.
