15.10.21 Update

admin on: Class 6

This week we have completed some practice SATs. I was really impressed with the children's attitude to them; I wouldn't say they were looking forward to them, but they accepted it was a necessary task and did their best.

In topic, we have been looking at art inspired by conflict and looked at some trench art from the First World War.

Every week (when possible) Miss Monday is taking different groups of children to complete some outdoor learning linked to our topic. They are currently working on building a shelter that might've been used during the Second World War. Here are some pictures of this week's group:

Remember, the blog will have a nightly update next week whilst we're at Robinwood, so make sure you check it!

Have a lovely weekend!

This week, we have written a newspaper report about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in English. This was in preparation for our history lessons moving onto the First World War. Today, the children learnt how to be historians by using sources to deduce what life was like in the trenches on the Western Front. We will be continuing this next week.

Also today, we have celebrated #HelloYellow World Mental Health. We have had a bit of fun, taking part in a quiz (which Ms. Kewley won!) and discussed the importance of talking about mental health. We also used the #HelloYellow photo booth props to take some silly photographs and hopefully raise some awareness of the importance of looking after our mental health.

Here are some of the photos:

October already! Robinwood is fast approaching! The blog will be the place to check each night they are away for updates on how they are all doing. Also, it has come to my attention that my Robinwood meeting recording from the meeting a couple of weeks ago has expired! So the link doesn't appear to work anymore. If anyone missed the meeting, please drop me an email if you have any questions and I will ring you.

This week we have continued our topic of light in science by looking at the size of shadows at various positions from the light source. In maths, we have finally got onto the 'dreaded long division', which turned out to not be so dreaded at all! Everyone had a good go and we will be continuing this next week.

In history, we have looked at wars the UK have been involved in since 1707 and worked out which century was the most 'war-filled'. We have then discussed and suggested reasons for there being more wars in one century than another. Here are some examples of their work.

Have a lovely weekend!

Another busy week in Class 6. We have started writing our tension-filled narrative called Alma in English. In maths we have looked at written methods for addition, subtraction and short multiplication. Next week will be long multiplication and division. In history we have learnt about the Spanish Armada and how it changed how naval battles were fought.

Also this week, a HUGE well done to every child who recorded a speech for the house captain role. All staff members in school were so impressed with their bravery, eloquence and maturity.

A big congratulations to the winners from each house. Here are the results and a screenshot from their speeches:

This week, in Class 6, we have wrote some amazing (and ghostly) monologues in English. Lots of varied and interesting vocabulary has been used!

In science, we made periscopes and used them to see if we could see from behind a shelf. There were... mixed results! Here are some pictures of the children making their periscopes.

In history, this afternoon, the children spend some time learning about why William the Conqueror won the Battle of Hastings as part of our War Across the Ages topic. Then, the children spent some time imagining what it would be like for the soldiers in that battle.

Have a lovely weekend!
