Class 6
Happy Half Term!
admin on: Class 6
Happy half term! It has been a longer than usual Spring 1, but the children have all worked incredibly hard and are ready for a well-deserved break. I am so proud with how much the children have retained information on their Jamaica topic. Here is an example of an end-of-topic report that they produced this week.
Also, a huge congratulations to Orla for winning the NPS Award this half term!
Have a lovely week off!

This week the children got to make some Jamaican-inspired food as part of the cooking part of their topic on Jamaica. There were mixed reactions to the spiciness of the jerk seasoning! Here are some photographs:

4.2.22 Update

This week, the children have been busy with their Jamaica topic. They have learnt how to categorise plants into 4 different categories in science and used this to classify Jamaican plants. They did a better job than I did!
Then, we moved onto the cooking and nutrition area of the topic by learning about the history of Jamaican Jerk seasoning as well as the origins of rice and peas. The children will be making Jamaican food next week.
Also this week, we have worked hard in PE to ensure our hockey and volleyball skills are able to be used in a class tournament. Both lessons of PE resulted in a tournament using all the skills from the past few weeks and put together in game scenarios. It is great to see their progress!
Have a lovely weekend!

This week, we have continued with our Jamaica topic by looking at classifying the vertebrates and invertebrates of Jamaica into different categories. The children even got a chance to hunt for invertebrates on the school grounds and see if they could classify them.
Also, a huge congratulations to Eva, Brooke and Alfie for being elected onto the school government. I am so proud of them and I can't wait to see what ideas they will come up with.
Have a lovely weekend!

21st January Update

We have had another busy week in Class 6. We have continued our Jamaica topic by looking at the sorts of animals and plants you find on the island. We have learnt about Carl Linnaeus and his classification system for living things and used this to classify living things found in Jamaica.
In PSHE, we have looked at the news and how we deal with stories on the news that might make us feel upset or worried. We will be looking at 'news' in PSHE for the next few weeks. Next week, we will be learning how to spot fake news and what we can do about it.
Whilst Miss Monday spent this morning doing some art with some of the class, I was able to take some of the class to a Sports Hall Athletics event at the sports centre on Leeds Road. I was so proud of the team for trying as hard as they did and being supportive of all their teammates. Although they didn't get through to the next round, the children have been a credit to our school and had a lovely morning!

Have a lovely weekend and keep safe!
