Class 6
Week ending Friday 9th July

Another fun-packed and diverse week has flown by in year 6!
We are full steam ahead now with plans for the Leavers' Assembly, which will be held outdoors for the first time - this could well be the start of a new trend!
This week, we have started rehearsing the sketches and writing speeches and on Thursday we did our first walk through for Miss Monday (and each other), so that we all had an opportunity to offer advice to each other and look for ways to fine-tune, before we embark on full rehearsals.
Project America gave the class chance to research and present a mini-project on a country in the Americas, before we began the weekly topic, which was created by last week's winning team: Project New Country. The aim was to invent a new country, a flag, a map, a leader, details on the environment and geography (and what plants and animals have adapted to live here) and to create a history, with details on laws and any social or political issues that are pertinent. Lots of learning and consolidation here and VERY much enjoyed by all!
On Tuesday, the class had their first opportunity to work with Mrs Barker! A full day with some fantastic creations - some new creatures here too!
We have been continuing with Y7 maths problem solving (and, of course, Speed Tables and mental maths), guided reading and the class story - Worst. Holiday. Ever, by Charlie Higson.
Lots done, lots still to do!
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Mr C, Mrs J, Miss Monday, Miss H and all the team!

We have reached July and the sun is shining!
This week, we completed our playscripts in preparation for Leavers' Assembly, we engaged in Y7 problem solving and mental maths, we continued our SRE topic and looked at child birth!
We undertook a topic to create our own band, marketing it, producing a CD cover and bios for the band, then presenting it.
Science was very exciting, as we looked at the fantastic taxonomy homework and then went on to apply classification to sweets!
In PE, we prepared and practised for sports day and in Art, we completed the Y6 stones for our outdoor display!
How do we fit it all in?

Another jam-packed week!
We began with Guided Reading, which has been very successful all year. Currently we have six groups, reading 8 different books. Here are some of them:
In English, we have been working on the Leavers' Assembly by planning and drafting playscripts for our individual scenes - we will begin to test out how successful they are next week.
We have begun some KS3 problem solving in maths, which has proved very tricky... have you been alive more than 1,000,000 seconds? Can you prove it?
Miss Monday has been helping us to complete our DT project to build our own car, which has electrical parts fitted - with varying degrees of success.
Some of the children have been outside in the forest area, building hammocks and using materials.
Alongside that, we have been running a group project to design your own restaurant, with groups being judged on their menus, the sign for the restaurant, an overhead plan of the layout and an advertising leaflet. Some groups went even further and made their own video ads! Great fun and very challenging.
Have a great weekend!
Mr C, Mrs J and the team.

Unfortunately, there are no photos this week, as we have all been adhering to the digital detox: paper registers, no SMART board - it has been a challenge at times, but we all got through it TOGETHER!
The English this week has been to keep a diary on our battles through the detox, with details on board games played with the family, football at the Oval (seems like that should be cricket), drawing, reading, etc. Well done everyone and thanks for your support.
Year 6 maths came to a close with co-ordinates, reflection, translation, pie charts and line graphs, before the end of year assessments. We rounded off the week with a year 7 mental maths test!
Science has seen us complete the strand of evolution and adaptation with and extreme animal challenge and designing our own life forms appropriate for different environments.
RSE has moved on from puberty (and catch-ups from the year 5 lockdown), to sex and reproduction. Lots of mature discussion and questions in class - very impressive.
In PE, we have been playing rounders in baking heat and competing in orienteering challenges. Long may the weather stay like this!
Have a lovely weekend everyone,
Mr C, Mrs J, Miss H and team.

The first week back... and it has FLOWN!
We have been writing instructions in advance of our Digital Detox, so that everybody is clear on what they can and can not do for the next week.
Maths has been revision of fractions, calculation problems and area of triangles and parallelograms.
We have been studying the differing theories of Evolution and how these theories themselves have evolved over time - discussing adaptation, variation and natural selection.
Great excitement as we embarked on the planning for Leavers' Assembly - fingers crossed!
The perfect spring PE lessons: Rounders and Orienteering have rounded off a lovely week.
Enjoy the weekend; let's hope the sun comes back out.
