Class stories

admin on: Class 6

Morning authors,

Just another message to tell you how much I'm enjoying the stories. I cannot WAIT to share these with the rest of the school. Here are the titles that we have complete up to the end of Chapter 3:

Dark

Fishy & Cody

Disney Adventure

Two Doors

Bird

Imagine

Morter Hunters

Torch of Thanatos

Bruce

The Girl and Her Ferret

The Strike of Wuhan

The Orphans

I'm just waiting for the following two more to be finished, then I can start sending these back out to you.

Piggy

The Lost City

HERE is the plan... once I have all the stories back.

Your next chapter is 4 - this will be the penultimate chapter, where you begin to solve the puzzle/right the wrong/settle the score, etc. BUT - not completely, because the story MUST be resolved and finished in chapter 5. Maybe there is a twist in the tale, a further dilemma...

You will all get your original stories back for chapter 5. This will allow you to see where on earth your ideas have run to and - hopefully - will be quite exciting for you. Equally exciting, should be the chance for your pair to end your story.

So... before that - chapter four. I'm going to give you the opportunity to request a story, based on the titles above. This will be first come, first served and you cannot have a story that you have already written part of. I suggest you speak to your partner and talk the names over - come up with a list of 3, with 1 being your first choice and then email me with your choices.

Once I get all the stories back, I will mail them out to you. Do not rush this. Spend some time reading it through and discussing it. Then go away and think about it some more. I don't need these back until the close of play on Monday.

I look forward to your requests.

In the meantime, if you are writing one of the two (Piggy or The Lost City), please can I have them back asap. Thanks,

Mr C

Ooh! I have a joke for Gretel...

Two cannibals are eating a clown, one turns to the other and says, "Does this taste funny to you?"

Ba doom, tish!

Anyway... Morning all! I hope you are all well. Yesterday was great. We had visitors!

Guy and Rio

The Spraggs

And Max!

Sorry we missed you Tom.

Mrs Johnson, Mr Kershaw and myself are in school for the next two days, so - if you are walking past on your daily exercise - call in.

Comprehension answers: 1a - Baby mammoth, 1b - to grab readers' interest and make them read on, 2 - cold, sparse Arctic area with few trees, 3 - northern Russia/Siberia, 4 - the animal is complete and well preserved, 5 - female, 6 - 'lopsided', 7 - by selling them as souvenirs, 8 - illegal trade, 9 - around 10,000 years ago/during the Ice Age/Pleistocene era, 10 - 'it is being sent to Japan for further tests.'

Reading:  30 minutes at least please. Thanks to those of you still reading and sending photos.

Maths: More multi-step word problems folks...

Nice maths, Jack!

English: I'm loving the writing - it's fantastic to read. Once I get them all back, I'll send them out - in the meantime, relax and read some more.

Exercise: Joe Wicks - or family walks/exercise - please keep getting your daily dose, it is so important not to stop. Lots of you are out walking. Well done!

Talking of healthy pastimes... look at this smoothie!

Topic: Today I have a computing task for you, from BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhdr47h - Algorithms and debugging! Enjoy.

Did you hear about the hungry clock? It went back four seconds!

Speed Tables: Don't shirk on this... it is amazing how quickly you lose these skills. Please do it with a family member.

Speed Tables Left 12a.xlsx

Well done all of you... don't forget to send your stories, so that I can send out your next ones.

Wednesday 6th May

admin on: Class 6

Good morning all,

I'm back into school for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and my companions will be Mr Kershaw and Mrs Johnson, so I'm quite excited. If you are walking past, please, PLEASE knock on the office window - we'd LOVE to see you for a two minute chat (and a socially distancing selfie) outside.

Did you hear about the cartoonist found dead at his home?
Details are sketchy...

I've been doing a bit of tidying out drawers and cupboards at home. It's quite a therapeutic thing to do - mindfulness in bundles... I recommend it. Ask if there is a cupboard you can tidy - OR do your bedroom... I dare you.

Reading: 30 minutes or more everyone. Thank you to those of you who are still sending photos of you reading; keep them coming AND give me your book recommendations.

I found out today that my book has (bizarrely) sold loads of copies in the US... who would have known? I'm hoping Mrs C will let me go on a book signing tour - Mr Kershaw could be my agent.

Exercise: Either Joe Wicks (not seeing any photos of this any more?), or your own family version. Don't forget Mrs Barker's Race For Life - training needed!

English: These stories are really exciting. Now you have seen the story so far, today is the day to get back to it, with your writing buddy and come up with the next chapter. This will be chapter 3 (of 5) and needs to have the problem, the dilemma, the drama. See what you can dream up together for your friends to solve. I love to see the photos of you working together - keep them coming!

Please remember to send these back to me on Word, so that I can pass these on. If you can send them back by the end of Wednesday, then I can send them all back out tomorrow for the bank holiday weekend.

Maths:

Chess: Are you still playing?

Topic: This is a geography lesson on trade and economics from BBC Bitesize - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zfcnf4j

Comprehension: From the Schofield and Sims book - Mammoth Find.
(Answers tomorrow)

What's ET short for?
Because he's only got little legs.

No photos to show you today unfortunately... hopefully we'll get a few more in later. Don't forget to keep checking in - Mrs Lindley is going to ring a few homes this week for a chat; we are ALL missing you.

Hopefully I'll see a few of you later.

Take care - Mr C

PS. Mrs Johnson keeps telling me to pass on that she's missing you and I keep forgetting. Oops!

Tuesday 5th May

admin on: Class 6

Morning all,

Thank you for the wonderful stories - I plan to send them out to new pairings shortly, so you should have them in the morning. I'm still waiting for two...

Reading: 30 minutes or more please. I can't wait to get back to my book!

Exercise: I see that Mrs Wicks is now the nation's favourite? Good for her. Keep getting fresh air and exercise everyone.

Writing: I'd like you to get together with your pairings and read through the new story that you have received. Talk about it. Don't write anything yet. Discuss and think. If there is any editing to do, then by all means have a go at that, but I want you to leave it until Wednesday to write, just discuss ideas. This story will have five chapters. So, there are three to go. This third chapter needs to have some kind of dilemma, or problem that needs fixing. You aren't going to solve it; you are going to leave it for the next pair to thing about. So, think carefully about what has happened so far, the characters and the setting and decide what the main problem will be. Enjoy...

Maths: Common factors and prime numbers:

Topic: I love some of the work you did on storms. Here are some of them...

Firestorms.docx

Reuben's Blizzard Work.docx

Sand & Dust Storm.docx

Storms - Rio (1).pdf

stormsTom.docx

Brilliant, eh? Very impressive.

So, the question is... what causes storms? Some of you have touched on this, but... are there storms in Antarctica? In Namibia? In Mongolia? Are they only in hot countries? Have they got worse recently, because of the human race and 'global warming'? What is the North Atlantic Conveyor system? What is the gulf stream?

Your topic is to research whether storms and weather patterns have got more extreme recently. Has the human race had an impact on this, or is it a cycle?

Chess:  I hope some of you are still playing... I am!

Revision: Based on today and yesterday - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zd8j7nb

Mrs C says our house is haunted. But I've lived here 300 years and I've never seen anything!

Sorry... try this: Why is dark spelled with a k and not a c?
Because you can't c in the dark!

Here are some pics... enjoy!

Woof to you all!

I hope you are all ok and staying safe. I'm still staying at home. We are having fun and having extra cuddles here.

I had a really special weekend because it was my 10th birthday! Wow, I ate so many sausages! I had loads of balloons, a sausage cake and a dinosaur party with games! We even had dog music, my favourite. Lucky for me the weather was lovely and we got to have a picnic in our garden. I wore a party hat but only for a few minutes because it made my ears tickle. My family asked me to wait to open my presents until the morning and it was hard because I could sniff the tasty treats inside! Afterwards, I had a lovely long sleep and dreamt about running and barking to the hokey cokey. I enjoy that dance and know all of the moves.

I can't wait until I see you again at school and we can chat about our time staying at home and all the things we've done with our families. I hope you and your families are ok and hope to see you woofy soon.

Love and paws,

Mr Curly Wurly xxx
