Week ending Friday 17th September

Posted: Sep 16, 2021 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Things are settling down into a nice routine in class 5.

We completed our opening piece of writing in our Journals and also did a piece of creative writing on a haunted house - helped tremendously by our new pocket dictionaries, which Mrs Moran kindly sourced for us.

In maths, we wrapped up place value and reviewed our progress, before we move onto formal methods of addition and subtraction next week. We have continued to work on fluency with times tables all week and began the Y5 mental maths.

In topic, we began looking at the science part of Out of this World, by investigating why, and how ,day turns into night and, using a cross-curricular link with maths, we grappled with time zones. To back up this topic, Miss Monday did some fantastic artwork with the class based on the sun - photos of the display coming next week!

The dance in PE was ballet, which involved a LOT of stretching and challenging balances and we also continued with the Friday swimming sessions.

Whilst we do French on a Friday, we had an unexpected change to plans when I managed to drag a family friend in, who was visiting from Frankfurt. Sophie visited Netherthong 8 years ago, to do her Year 10 work experience in class 6 and was thrilled to return to teach a short lesson on cognates between German and English. Ask your child which words they learnt.

Eine schoenes Wochenende wuenschen wir ihnen!

Mr C, Mrs J and the team!
