Monday 15th June with Mr. Cornes-Green

Posted: Jun 14, 2020 by: Liam Kershaw (LKershaw) on: Class 5

Morning, Class 5!

Mr. K here briefly, then I will hand you over to your teacher for the day, Fred (that's Mr. Cornes-Green to you lot!). Fred won the story competition last week and his prize was he gets to take over the blog for one day. Today, (nearly) everything is provided by Fred. I have just added the daily maths and grammar questions, but the rest is all Fred. I hope you enjoy these activities, they look fun! I have decided to do a blog take over every week, so keep your eye out this week for a new competition. The winner will get full control of the blog for one day next week! And no, Max, you can't just post a blog that says 'NO WORK', like you suggested the other day!

Grammar questions:

1.) Why does this sentence need a comma?    Suddenly, a frog emerged from the pond.

2.) What is the apostrophe showing here? Possession or omission?    I shouldn't be eating more cake.

3.) How many determiners?   I grabbed his hand and we jumped into the pool from that diving board.

4.) Where is the modal verb?  We must check our work for spelling errors.

5.) Add the inverted commas to show direct speech.     Thanks, Amy! beamed Annie when she received her present.

6.) Where is the auxiliary verb?  I have eaten already.

7.) Add a comma to make this 3 objects.      I have bought plastic sheets paint brushes and paint.

8.) Where is the reflexive pronoun? You need to take care of yourself when you are away.

Mr. K here, interrupting Fred (sorry!) with a quick hint for you.

Hint: If it says 4E it means 4 X E . E = 5, so it means 4 X 5.

Also, Fred says you only have to do one of the maths sheets. I would love to see the finished results, so please send them in!

Daily maths questions:

1.) If Angela cycles 1/4 of a mile for 5 days and Tommy cycles 1/12 of a mile for 7 days, who has travelled the furthest? Hint: think back to last week's maths.

2.) 4 and 3/4 X 6

3.) 25% of 16

4.) 599 X 36

5.) 0.678 + 1/1000

6.) Name all the factors of 64.

7.) 7000 X 30

8.) 0.084 X 100

9.) 6.984 X 3

10.) 3/5 of 55

Drama

The National Theatre is a famous theatre situated on the banks of the River Thames in London. Watch the National Theatre video called Welcome to the National Theatre on YouTube. In this video you will go on a virtual backstage tour of the National Theatre.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBV8pqN4MFs

Watch the video carefully and answer the following questions where you will learn about the backstage and creative teams who work together to create wonderful plays and performances:

  1. How many people visit the National Theatre each year?
  2. Where do the actors get changed before going on stage?
  3. What are the two shows during the day called?
  4. What happens in the Rehearsal Room?
  5. What is the name of the pathway that connects the backstage workshops?
  6. Name two types of manufacturing workshops in the backstage area.
  7. Who tells the workshops what to make?
  8. Give some examples of things made in the Assembly Area.
  9. Who makes the clothes that the actors wear, and where are they made?
  10. Who tells the actors when to go on stage?
  11. How many people can be seated in the Olivier Theatre?

If you send your answers to Mr. K, he will mark it and send it back to you.

Mr. K again... wow! I have loved seeing the different ideas you have come up, Fred. I'm sure the class will enjoy doing something a little bit different today.

A big thank you to your teacher for today, Mr. Cornes-Green. I wonder if he will give out some raffle tickets?!

Anyway, I'm sure Fred would love to see all your lovely work, so please send in some examples and I will load them onto the blog this afternoon.
