Tuesday 9th June

Posted: Jun 8, 2020 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Buongiorno tutti!

I've been talking to Mr Kershaw and he has very kindly allowed me to start doing a weekly blog for you. Transition between classes is going to be a bit different this year and somehow we need to get to know each other a little better before you join year 6, so Tuesdays will be the day.

I'm going to start telling you a little bit about me and the year six routine and hopefully you will all send me emails, so that I can learn more about you. When emailing me, just send it to: class6@netherthongprimary.co.uk and I'll try to get back to you as quickly as I can.

So... andiamo! Let's go.
I've been learning a lot of Italian during the last few months - the lockdown has helped. I use several methods, but I really recommend the apps, Memrise and (especially) Duolingo; I'm on 280 consecutive days now. Download it - have a go at another language. We will be doing French next year, but I love languages, so I will try to mix things up a bit and I'll definitely be teaching you some Japanese!

Reading: I LOVE reading... every day; I always have at least two books on the go. I'm currently reading 'Playing For Keeps', David Halberstam's biography of Michael Jordan and 'The Man Who Never Was', a thriller by Mark Dawson. I'd like you to try and get a photo of you reading in the most unusual place possible and send it to me. I'll post my favourite ones on a future blog. When you send it, let me know what you are reading and whether you are enjoying it - do you recommend it? Why?

English/GPS: Bullet points... how and why are they used? Have a go at this activity; you will need it for the next item: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zdmc47h

So, now you know how to use bullet points, I'd like you to work on this -

LO: Year 6 - What Will It Look Like?

Make a list of the things that you are a) looking forward to, b) worried/concerned about.

Next, make a list of 3 things that you think I need to know about you.

Finally - think of ONE question that you would like to ask me.

I am looking forward to getting your work, so that it can help me plan for next year.

This is one of my cats, Mr Biscuit:

He is like one of my best friends. I've always had cats - we have four at the moment - but I've never had a cat like Biscuit. He's a Ragdoll and likes nothing more than being picked up and cuddled like a baby, especially when you tickle his tummy. Most nights I wake up to find him asleep on top of me, or tucked up beside me. Bless him and his little blue eyes!

So, you know a couple of things about me. But don't let on to other year groups that I'm a big softy that loves cats, I have an image to maintain. I'm looking forward to hearing from you and getting to know more about you.

Also, while I am thinking, I rang Robinwood last week and I am happy to say that they will definitely be back to capacity from September, so our October trip is going ahead as planned. You will LOVE it! It is one of my favourite things each year.

I'll finish with a joke - of sorts...

What do you call a magic dog?
A labracadabrador!

Have a lovely day.
Ciao tutti - non vedo l'ora di conoscerti.
Mr C
