Posted: Jun 2, 2020 by: Liam Kershaw (LKershaw) on: Class 5

Morning Class 5. Hopefully I will hear from a few more of you today. It would be great to see how you are after half term. Just to let you know, I didn't post a Tuesday updates, as I didn't get many emails. Isla, Tom and Madison, I will post your work on today's updates blog.

Here are the answers to yesterday's daily questions:

1.) Where is the article?    She tried to write using a pen, but it was difficult.

2.) Where is the adverb?    They tried to explain to the man who was shouting angrily

3.) Where is the modal verb?    I am not sure you can do that!

4.) Where is the adverb that shows possibility?   It will certainly be a fun day!

5.) Add the comma.     The children were watching the film, which was very funny.

6.) Add a pair of dashes to show the parenthesis.    The watch - which had a pink strap - was on the floor.

7.) Where is the main clause?  The boat, which was in front of the marina, was owned by a famous celebrity.       Remember, sometimes a main clause can be split up by an embedded clause.

8.) Fill in the missing word:   A pronoun replaces a noun.

1.) 877 X 35    30,695

2.) 3.2km is how many metres? 3,200 metres

3.) Add the Roman Numerals:   XV + C   XV = 15    C = 100      15 + 100 = 115

4.) 6 and 2/3 X 7    46 and 2/3

5.) 6/7 + 3/14    6/7 is the same as 12/14 so 12/14 + 3/14 = 15/14 or 1 and 1/14

6.) 6/6 as a percentage. Remember what I said in the answers for yesterday's questions!    100%

7.) 1.045 + 0.9    1.945

8.) Which digit is in the tenths column?     20.15

9.) 10 cubed minus 5 cubed.    10 cubed = 1000         5 cubed = 125     1000 - 125 = 875

10.) What is the next number in the sequence?    0.054     0.54       5.4       54

Reading

I have set two 2dos for you on PurpleMash. The first is chapter 2 of A bridge on Fire and the second is a quiz about this chapter. Please complete this.

English

Today, the first task is to write a very short introduction to your 'How to Survive Year 5' piece of writing. You need to write the title, then include an entertaining introduction. You might want to use rhetorical questions like 'Do you want to know how to ace Year 5?'     or 'Ever wondered how to get on Mr. Kershaw's good side?'

Then, over the next two days you will be writing your guide under the subheadings we looked at yesterday. A reminder that they are:

Also, I have attached Libby F's guide that she has written already. She has finished it early! She hasn't had chance to do the introduction, but the rest of it is awesome!

PSHE

Today, some children are returning to Netherthong. Some Reception children will be coming back and are being taught by either Mrs Oddy, Miss Hemingway or Mrs Hemingway. Next week, Year 1 and Year 6 return.

I would like you to think about how you feel about returning to school (whenever that might be).

Share with a family member your thoughts, feelings and questions about it. It is important to talk about these sorts of things. Also, I would love it if you emailed me with your thoughts, feelings or questions. I can't guarantee I will be able to answer all of your questions, but it would be nice to see how you are feeling about returning to school.

Here are some things to think about:

How are you feeling about being off school still when other classes are returning?

What thoughts do you have about returning to school?

Which emotions do you associate with returning to school?

PE

Keep being super active! Joe Wicks has been doing some cracking workouts over the last couple of weeks. Very tiring!
