admin on: Reception
11th and 12th February 2020
Over the past two days, children in Key Stage 1 have been learning more about Safer Internet Day. They looked at Buddy the Dog who helps them use the internet safely by using Buddy’s ‘Use Your Tablet Safely’ Song (Sung to the tune of Frère Jacques):
Ask your grown-up,
Ask your grown-up,
Ask for help!
Ask for help!
Use your tablet safely,
Use your tablet safely,
Woof, woof, woof!
Woof, woof, woof!
They also looked at Digiduck and why we should always ask permission before we send or use a picture taken of someone else. For more information, please visit: https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2020

5th February 2020
Today we have been looking at the traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learnt a traditional Greek dance to music from Greece. In art, we have been busy drawing around 2D shapes then cutting them out to make bears and drawing patterns in paint on glass, then printing them onto paper. In textiles, we cut out little pieces of material and stuck them onto squares of card. We then stuck all of the card together to make a patchwork quilt for Baby Bear. In phonics, we recapped the phase three sounds using games on PhonicsPlay. A link to the website is here so you can play the games at home too: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/Phase3Menu.htm

A Wednesday with a twist ...

29th January 2020
Today we have carried on looking at different traditional tales. We learnt a traditional African dance to African music. Also we have thought about alternatives to eating meat so tried Mediterranean style falaffls, plant based sausages and quorn slices. We voted on which as enjoyed the most which was the quorn slices. In art we blew the paint across the paper to make different patterns. What a healthy day we all have had!

Chinese New Year
admin on: Reception
22nd and 23rd January 2020
For the past 2 days we have been looking at the festival of Chinese New Year, which is on the 25th January. This year it is the year of the rat. We began by learning a dance which helped us to prepare then celebrate the new year. We tried a vegetable stir-fry with prawn crackers, all of us had a taste and it was delicious!
We did lots of different craft activities including: hand fans, red money envelopes, making dragons with 2D shapes, lantern pictures.
In art we used brushes to create a symmetry dragon, wrote Chinese characters and numbers, and used recycled plastic bottles to make blossom trees.
We wrote our wishes and put them on the wish tree.
We learnt about the Chinese festival by reading different stories related to this including the story of the Chinese Zodiac. We worked out that in this class, we were either born in the year of the horse (2014) or the year of the goat (2015). We were lucky enough to see some objects and clothing that a member of this class wears during her celebrations with her family.
This week in maths, we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We made 3D shapes out of playdough and pictures of everyday objects using 2D shapes.
What a busy two days we have all had celebrating!
