World Book Day

admin on: Class 6

Class 6 were invited to the World Book Day tea party to read our guided reading book, 'Wonder'. They ate some lovely cakes that were brought in by the children and had juice and hot chocolate. It was a great morning and the children seemed to enjoy doing guided reading this way! Shame we can't do it this way every session! Here are some photographs:

1.3.24 Update

admin on: Class 6

This week, in Class 6, we started our new topic, 'Millions of Years', the children started by looking at geological periods from the Cambrian Period right up until the Quaternary Period that we live in now. They also began looking at continental drift and how the continents have changed over time.

Also, the children have been planning to write a narrative based on The Dark Horse and in maths the children have looked at factors and multiples.

In PE, the children have started a new gymnastics unit where they are building on lots of skills that they have learnt across the last three years in gymnastics.

Cooking in Y6

admin on: Class 6

This week, to finish our Jamaica topic, the children made their own 'Jerk Seasoning' by mixing a variety of different herbs and spices. They then rubbed this on some corn-on-the-cob and fried it. To accompany this, they made traditional Jamaican rice and peas. They had lots of fun making it, but I think the spice was a bit too much for some when it came to trying it!

9.2.24 Update

admin on: Class 6

In the last couple of weeks, the class have done a variety of activities.

In science, last week, they went out looking for invertebrates. They had to classify them into different phylums (according to the Linnaeus classification system).

Also, the children acted out a seen from the book, The Dark Horse. The scenes were very dramatic!

26.1.24 Update

admin on: Class 6

This week, the children have moved onto history and science in their Jamaica topic. They looked at the history of Jamaica: from the indigenous people to the colonisation by Spain and later Britain. They also looked at Jamaica's independence. For science, the children are learning how to classify animals using Carl Linnaeus's classifications system. They tried this out with some animals and plants found in Jamaica.

Also this week, the children have been working hard on their hockey skills in PE. They completed a 5-team class tournament which we will expand on next week. We are working towards having a team to take to a competition at Holmfirth High School on the 8th February.

In PSHE, the children came up with some top tips for how to deal with things they see and hear in the news. The children were very mature in their attitudes towards this.
