Tuesday Intervention by Mr C (16/6/20)

Posted: Jun 15, 2020 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Morning all,

I would like to start this week by thanking those of you who engaged last week and sent me emails.

Congratulations to Tom, who will be following on in his sister's footsteps by taking the House Points job, which means he will be announcing the weekly winners in assembly. He will be joined in this job by Anna.

Carrying on the dog jokes: Which breed of dog can jump higher than buildings?
All of them; buildings can't jump!

This week's topic is a two-parter:

First, I'd like you to choose a window in your house that has an interesting view. Find a comfortable seat and recreate what you see. This could be in pencil, pen, paint, collage, anything... I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with; there are no rules.
Secondly, I'd like you to write about what you can see out of that window. Somehow, I need to assess your writing. Normally, I'd do this over a series of lessons, but that's impossible this year.
Every year, I go away on holiday at Easter. I have a tradition where I buy a new Moleskine Notebook in the airport and, as the plane is taking off, I do a seating plan for Registration/Afternoon, Maths and English. Sadly, I couldn't do that this year, but I have got the notebook, so I'm starting to make notes - based on your emails from last week, things that Mr K has told me and your work/tests through school.
Do what you can in this writing - amaze me. I'm looking to see who uses semi-colons, metaphors, personification, etc.

I would still love to hear from you, especially if you haven't got in touch yet.

Thank you for the photos - here are some of them:

So, the good weather is back; it was a bit damp at the weekend. I think I've finally grown up, as I'm now the owner of an umbrella! This is good news, as it means it probably won't rain for a while.

I bought my daughter a fridge for her birthday.
I can't wait to see her face light up when she opens it!

(That was a joke.)

So, something else about me - I'm a Liverpool supporter, who has been waiting 30 years since the last title-winning season, but one of my favourite sports is the NFL (American Football) and I'm a Houston Texans fan. Similarly, the Texans haven't had much to cheer about recently. If the season does begin again, in September, it will be without DeAndre Hopkins, who has been one of the best players of the past 5 years and has transferred to Arizona. If any of you have a favourite team (or an older sibling who followed a team when they were in Y6), let me know. Each year, the class member who follows the Superbowl winning team will get a piece of merchandise before the end of the year. We will be doing American Football in PE in the Autumn.

I hope to hear from as many of you as possible. Tom sent me a joke last week - I welcome any jokes... the more terrible the better!

Mr C
