Reading

Here is a reading comprehension for you.

English

Yesterday, you should've chosen a great woman from history to research in more detail. I gave you some suggestions to what you might want to find out about the person you chose, but I'm sure you have a lot more information! Today, we are going to organise our facts into different 'subheadings' or categories, so that when we write out biography, it will be easier to follow.

A biography is usually written in chronological order (although not always!). If you want to do it in chronological order, you need to organise your facts in this way. You want to think about what you are going to call each area of their lives and use these as subheadings for you facts.

You might want to organise them under these headings:

  • Early life
  • Education
  • Career
  • Later life

Or, you can choose your own subheadings to organise your writing under. If you remember, when we wrote our biography about Neil Armstrong last year, we used subheadings that were directly related to him. We used subheadings such as 'career before NASA' and 'career at NASA' as well as 'After the Moon landings', so you might want to do the same for the woman you are researching.

Either way, your task for today is to organise your notes. You can either write them out again in bullet points under the headings, or you could colour-code your notes from yesterday using highlighters or colouring pencils.

Here are your 8 grammar questions for today:

1.) Add two apostrophes to this sentence: We couldnt go to Harolds party.

2.) How many pronouns? They could not see them in the crowd.

3.) Where is the subordinating conjunction? Although they could not find them, they weren't worried.

4.) Where are the two common nouns? She felt joy when she realised she had won a trip to New York on a luxury ship.

5.) Add a comma: We will find them won't we?    (Hint: Remember when we did question tags in grammar?).

6.) Where is the possessive pronoun? He said it was his, but I'm not so sure.

7.) Where is the modal verb?  You must raise your hand to ask a question.

8.) What type of word have I underlined? I saw a cat on that wall.

Maths

This week, you have completed some revision activities on perimeter and area. We are now going to do the same with volume. Volume is the amount of space a 3D shape can hold. So, it's kind of the 3D version of area! We did this in school a few months ago. Today, I would like you to complete the Mathletics task I have assigned you on volume. You will be asked to identify the largest or smallest box by volume. Sometimes they might ask you to identify the 3rd largest or the 4th smallest, so make sure you read the question carefully and work through it slowly, taking your time. Here is a picture to help you.

Here are the daily 10 questions:

1.) 693 X 48

2.) 6.704 X 100

3.) 6.704 divided by 100.

4.) 7/8 + 1/16

5.) 75% as a fraction in its lowest form.

6.) What is 25% of 20?

7.) 6.703 + 2/100

8.) What is a composite number?

9.) Name a cube number between 20 and 30.

10.) 7084 - 287

Topic

Today, I would like you to look at the picture I have uploaded below. There are lots of different types of renewable energy listed on it. Remember, renewable energy never runs out, and doesn't involve the burning of fossil fuels, so it is better for the environment. I would like you to pick one of the examples of renewable energy and research some more information about it. You should answer the following questions:

  • What is it?
  • How does it make energy?
  • Which countries use it?
  • Are there any problems with it? For example, is it really expensive?
  • Can you draw a picture of it?

Basically, I would like you to be an expert at one type of renewable energy! I would love to see what you have done, so you can send your research to me using the email class5@netherthongprimary.co.uk

Here is the picture with the types of renewable energy. There is some information about each one to get you started, but you will need to do some research. Remember, kidrex.org is a good safe search website.

PE

I hope the weather isn't putting you off exercising! It's been very cold over the last few days. Apparently, there was snow in Scotland yesterday! Anyway, keep up the daily exercise and keep sharing what you have been up to!
