Well, I just spent ages creating this blog, and it has deleted itself, despite me saving the draft! How annoying!

First of all, thank you to everyone who is sending me work, and keeping in touch. There are still a couple of you who haven't contacted me at all since we began working from home; I would love to hear from you! I would love to hear from everyone else as well!

Here are the answers to the daily questions:

1.) What does a pronoun do?  It replaces a noun.

2.) Where is the preposition?  The car raced across the finish line.

3.) How many pronouns?  We took it to show the teacher.   2  (we and it)

4.) Punctuate this sentence:   The people of Manchester were proud of their team.

5.) Add a pair of dashes:  Angus - born in 1976 - is a famous artist.

6.) Why is a comma used?  Although it is a sunny day, there is a strong wind. The sentence starts with a fronted subordinate clause, so a comma will be needed at the end of this.

7.) Where is the possessive pronoun? That might be mine.

8.) Where is the coordinating conjunction?  I fell over, so I will need a plaster.

1.) 231 X 45    10,395

2.) 5035 divided by 9   559 remainder 4

3.) 6.732 - 3.698   3.034

4.) 50% of  24  12

5.) 25/100 + 25% = Give your answer as a fraction.   25% is the same as 25/100 so it is 25/100 + 25/100 = 50/100 or 1/2 (or any equivalent fraction).

6.) How much change will I get from £10 if I buy a packet of crisps worth £0.56 and a cupcake worth £1.02   £8.42

7.) What is 5,678 grams in kilograms?  5.678kg

8.) An acute angle is always less than how many degrees? Remember the rhyme 'it's cute and tiny and less than ninety'. So the answer is less than 90.

9.) 2 and 3/4 X 7   19 and 1/4

10.) 5 and 3/4 as an improper fraction.   23/4

Reading

Here is a reading comprehension for you:

English

Here are the 8 questions for English:

1.) Where is the determiner? I grabbed a coat and went outside. BONUS POINT: What is the other name for this type of determiner?

2.) Where is the preposition? We ran towards the playground.

3.) How many determiners? We saw an apple fall from that tree.

4.) Punctuate this sentence: although the apple fell we didnt pick it up

5.) What is wrong with this sentence? I wish I had a orange instead of a apple.

6.) Why is are commas used? The car, which was a dark green colour, hadn't moved in 3 days.

7.) Where is the possessive pronoun? I think that bag is theirs.

8.) Where is the coordinating conjunction? We could go to the park, or to the farm.

In English, we are kind of doing poetry...  I guess?

For your country, I would like you to write a national anthem. A national anthem is a song which celebrates a country's history and people. Although it is a song, I would just like you to write it as a poem (you can add music to it if you like!).

The UK national anthem is below. As you can see, this one celebrates the Queen. With that in mind, you need to first think of a leader for your country. Is it you? Are you a king/queen? Is it someone else? Your mum? Dad?

Here is the first verse of the national anthem of the United Kingdom. There are other verses too, so if you wanted to research that, you may.

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen!

You can also get inspiration from other national anthems. The US national anthem celebrates its flag and a great naval battle that happened, so you may want to make reference to the flag you made yesterday in your national anthem. Also, you could think about one of your favourite memories in your house/garden and refer to that in the poem. Here is the US national anthem:

Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched,
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled
Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?
So to recap:
1.) Write a poem for your country that can be used as its national anthem.
2.) Include reference to your country's leader if you want.
3.) You can write a line about the country's flag.
4.) You can include a favourite memory from your house/garden.
Maths
First of all, I will remind you that I am checking Mathletics daily, and I have noticed that some of you haven't attempted the work from this week or previous weeks. I would at least request that you attempt the work, please, so I can see how you are finding this topic, as I know it is difficult. If you have any issues getting onto Mathletics, please let me know. Big thank you to those of you who have had a go, I can see on my teacher login.
To recap your work on time, I have assigned you a few questions on Mathletics to sum up what you have looked at so far this week. Please have a go at this, so I can see how you're getting on.
Here are the 10 questions for maths:
1.) 458 X 32
2.) 7711 divided by 7
3.) 3000 X 20
4.) 6000 divided by 300
5.) 25% of 16 (remember that 25% is the same as 1/4)
6.) What is 5,410 metres in kilometres?
7.) How many degrees does a straight line have?
8.) How much change from £10 will I get if I bought: 2 postcards worth 99p and a fridge magnet worth £3.49?
9.) 5 and 4/7 X 10
10.) 74/10 as a mixed number.
Topic
For topic, I would like you to design a coat of arms for your country. A coat of arms is a  design painted/drawn on a shield. It usually contains creatures or plants that are special to the country. In the UK coat of arms (see below) there are different creatures and plants to represent the four nations of the UK. So think about what you would like to represent your country. Would you like your pet to feature on it (if you have one)? What object/animal/creature best sums up your country? Is your country and brave and strong one, like a lion? Or is it a peace-loving country that might have a dove on its coat of arms? Could it be that your country is beautiful and colourful, and has a unicorn on its coat of arms?
PE
Joe Wicks is still going strong! Are there any other online workouts you have used that you want to share?
Finally, thank you to everyone who is keeping in touch. It really is useful for me to know how you're getting on, and it is so nice to hear from you all. I miss Class 5!
