The Big Battle Week

Posted: Apr 1, 2022 by: Liz McLoughlin (LMcLoughlin) on: Class 1

Friday 1st April

What a week we've had this week!
We've continued to learn about seasonal changes and we certainly saw those this week with Wednesday's 'winter-like' weather.  We thought about this as we learned all about pictograms, working scientifically in science to plot the average number of daylight hours per season.  We could conclude that Summer had the most daylight hours.  We wish the sunshine they used for their pictograms had been out for Forest School.....
It was Snowdrops who braved the snow flurries and looked at mini beasts this week. We tried to organise ourselves like ants, travelling in a line and passing things along. It was really difficult! We sorted sticks in ascending size order and worked as a team to create an enormous spider web ( complete with a spider in the middle!) We found worms, wood lice, centipedes and ladybirds and noticed where they like to hide and how they move. Then we had a much needed hot chocolate under the canopy to warm us up!

The highlight of the week was Monday - it was battle day.  We had an epic Battle of Hastings, held on the hill in the playground.  The two sides faced each other bravely and we followed our learning about how Harold was defeated and his line of shields broken.  There was some fantastic acting, with Harold being shot in the eye and William declaring victory. A real treat to watch!  Here's a screenshot from the footage!

We've continued our Motte & Bailey DT this week too - here's a sneak preview of work in progress!
We hope the weather warms up for you this weekend and we look forward to our last week before Easter.
