Weather-tastic Week!

Posted: Sep 17, 2021 by: Mrs Parker (NHemingway) on: Class 1

17th September 2021
What a busy week we have had in Year 1!
We have started looking at The Tiger Who Came To Tea by Judith Kerr, which most of our literacy work is going to be based on for the next few weeks. We made ourselves familiar with the story by drawing and describing our favourite character and retelling the story through acting.
This week we have made a rain gauge as we observe the weather. Every day we are now excitedly checking and measuring the amount of rain fall and the temperature, recording it on our class weather chart.  Tuesday gave us a super start with all the rain that fell!
The children enjoyed their (muddy!) forest school session. From next week the children will be in two groups and will take it in turns on alternate weeks to access forest school. This will give them more time for each session.  We'll let you know in due course which group your child is in and therefore which weeks they will need their wellies.
During art, we learnt about hot and cold colours and how they can influence our feelings. We then learnt how to create a colourwash using the 'hot' colours red, yellow and orange. Next week we are going to do the same for cold colours!

We've also been looking at the school behaviour system this week and reminding the children why it's 'good to be green'. Our Key Stage 1 assembly on Boris and the Giant Turnip helped us understand how teamwork and working together can solve so many problems.
Have a lovely weekend and hope the weather stays sunny!
