A week of 'The Gingerbread man'

We have had a wonderful time designing, making, printing, smelling and acting out aspects of the Gingerbread man.

In cooking this week we had to make and eat a gingerbread man of course. We looked at the ginger root.

In phonics we are writing simple sentences and thinking of describing characters.

e.g ' The thin man

The man was fast.

In math's work we have been using the language lighter, heavier, empty, full, mass and  looking at capacity of beakers.

We have been reading our book bag books a lot this week as we have been blessed with two students for the last two weeks. We will be down to 1 next week then 0.

Its makes such a difference reading little and often.

Please make sure your children recognise ch sh th (chip chop, sheep ship, thin, thick) digraphs and find them in words then they can progress onto the red book. Please come and see us if you are unsure.

Next week we are learning about Chinese New Year.

Please watch the clips on 'Microsoft Team's for pre-learning.

Here are a few highlights.

Weighing and measuring - words we used light, heavy, mass.

Reading the retell of the story together

Reading using 'special friend' green words as a warm up.

Cutting out the Ginger breadman

Hello,

A week of Nursery rhymes this week,. We had fun with Humpty Dumpty and all but two children enjoyed eggy bread, a healthy snack to have at home.

In phonics we are looking at longer words with 4 sounds and writing little simple sentences.

In math's work we were talking about the amounts, more and fewer and calculating the difference between these.

In the woods we noticed shoots from snow drops and daffodils already appearing.

Next week we will be reciting the story of 'The Gingerbread Man' If you have this story at home please read it  together and maybe show the children a real piece of ginger root.

Here are a few highlights:

Thank you for your support at home.

Please keep up the reading.

Welcome back to an icey cold start!

Our theme this week was winter and we really did get that experience for the children.

We managed to paint snowman, winter trees, math's working with 5 and 6 and making maps.

Phonics we are working on longer words with more 'Fred  Fingers' and using digraphs e.g  such as m-e-l-t  is 4  c-r-a-ck is 4.

also writing words such as: fat big fell hat.

We also managed a bit of fun time in the snow.

Next week we will be learning 8 Nursery rhymes with a challenge and certificate.

Here are a few highlights.

Thank you for all your support at home.

Please keep up the reading with you child. We will change the books on Monday.

What a super week we have had learning about the celebration of Chinese New Year.

We have made Chinese lanterns, lucky red money packets, had a go at Chinese writing and also we made snake symbols for the Year of the snake.

We have learnt about the story of the  12  animals of the  Zodiac calendar.

We sang songs and learnt how to say Happy New Year in Chinese.

On Wednesday with Lucky we tried some Chinese noodles and stir fry.

In math's we were looking at the number 6,7,8 and finding different ways to make these. This is tricky so please have a go at home.

An egg box is good to make 6 in many different ways.

Here are a few highlights.

Different ways to make 7

Food tasting

Wow!

What a final week. The children have worked so hard on the Christmas show and it showed with the enjoyment and confident they portrayed.

The children were all amazing showing confidence, concentration and competence on their performance on Tuesday.

We managed to continue with our phonics and Christmas Math's sessions and also so on a scavenger hunt outside.

Thank you for all your support at home this term.

Please keep up the reading with the children over the holidays it makes a huge difference to their confidence and progression the short 5 minute regualar reading session you do at home. We are no w looking at fluency in the reading of the CVC words. that means after a few goes they children recognise the words and can read them without blending them in ' Fred Talk'

Math's you can bring in at any time. Playing board games, setting the table looking for shapes and their properties.

Try and use the words 'one more than' one less than and see if they can tell you the answer.

Thank you again for all your support.
