Home Learning week 1

Posted: Mar 23, 2020 by: Emma Oddy (EOddy) on: Reception

Well good morning everyone!

Lets make learning fun. I don't want to add too much each day as I feel it can be overwhelming as I too have two children at home myself.

Short daily activities:

Go noodle

Number work

Phonics

Reading

Play - crafting

Today we are going to set up our class, get a register written and a timetable table set up all done by your children.

A  routine is best for the children so they know what is happening each day.

We will have a theme of the week a book and activities will be based around this.

Don't feel you have to stick all all the ideas I provide.

Pintrest is a great source of free crafting and other activities which will complement the theme.

This weeks book is Aaarghhh Spider by Lydia Monks. Themes of tolerance and misunderstanding.

Later in the week looking at spider facts.

Did you know spiders have up to 8 eyes?

If children  are involved in their own learning you will have a better chance of them engaging in all the activities through 'PLAY'.

  1. Make a class - Get the teddies, robots, transformers ect to become part of your class. Make a register (writing)
  2. Set up the days of the week, date and weather type on cards. (Drawing and writing)
  3. Dinners make a dinner list with two choices each day and count  how many of each. (number-counting)
  4. Make a time table.
  5. Register- Go noodle-maths-phonics-outdoor-reading- construction-craft-lunch-end of day- (Maths)

We are now set up have this as a daily routine. They can be the teacher.

Literacy

Introduce the book. Have you got any pets?

Is there a part you would like to have? What are reasons for not having the pets they really need.

What do you think would happen if you were to ask for a spider for a pet?

Would their family like it?

What sort of things do people say about spiders? Write list spiders are………….(Keep List).

Read the book Aaaarrhh  Spider! Encourage children to join in the repeated pattern. Also the unexpected twist at the end. What did the children think about the story? What they like did not like or think about the story? Scribe some ideas.

Maths

https://mathseeds.co.uk/

I have set up counting in 10's lesson.

We have been looking at number to 100's and looking for patterns. All 20's start with a 2. All 30's start with a 3.

Look at second digit. That lets us how many ones in that number. Show children a number and see if the can find it on the 100 square? 1-50 at first.

Find two number 23-37 and count from one number to another. The count backwards for a challenge. Crossing from 29-30 4-50 can be tricky.

Phonics

There are Read Write Phonics - videos are available for the next two weeks on their utube or face book channel.

Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm

One rule each day is to write a sentence and read it out everyday.

The red Get Writing RWI books can help with this.

Hold a sentence means the children have to remember it. NOT COPY IT.

If you do one ditty a day there is enough for two weeks.

Have a break and in the after-noon why no go out and look for spider webs!!!! or Spiders.
Reading
Free login in and  e-books and great short video clips on how to teach you child phonics and early number.
That's enough for today.
Remember every little helps and don't get frustrated. There is so much hidden learning done through play so enjoy this time, play games, bake (if you can find flour), talk to each other and  read to each other.
