Georgie's Monday

admin on: Class 6

I've had lots of work in from Georgie already - here's some of it:

How good is that diary? Keep it coming...

Thanks for doing the topic work - see how you do with Africa! Good luck and well done.

Alex's Monday

Alex decided to mix it up a bit yesterday and went to do outdoor, stunt reading!

Here's Alex's maths - look at that presentation; excellent work!

Tuesday 24th March

admin on: Class 6

Good Morning all (or Buongiorno, as myself and Rio would say - as we are both doing Italian on Duolingo!),

First of all can I just thank Alex, Leila, Georgie, Tom and Rio for emailing me and sending some work; it was SOOOOOOO good to hear from you guys. I'm going to post photos of your work later on - superb! There were also some photos of smiley faces, which I'm hoping they are happy for me to share with you.

After last night's address from Boris, we are now even more isolated. I hope you are all ok and you can continue to treat this as an opportunity to spend time with your families, before you become nasty teenagers, who just want to be shut in your rooms, not communicating with the outside world. Grab hold of this chance now!

We've been playing Trivial Pursuits here - we got the new version, which is quite challenging, but in a good way. We've also been playing dominoes. I'm happy to say that I am 2 nil up against Mr Kershaw at Scrabble Go. He has invited me back for game 3! I also had two ZOOM meetings with Miss Kelly, Mrs Moran and Mrs Barker. On the second one, Mrs Moran wore a blonde wig! So I dug out a Stetson that I bought once in Texas. The world is certainly changing around us. I walked up my drive this morning and it felt like summer was coming. Fingers crossed.

So, on to today. Before I start, EVERYONE in the world (or at least my world) seems to have been doing Keep Fit with Joe Wicks. So, this morning, at 9am, go on YouTube and wake yourself up, along with a million or so others. Leila sent me a photo of her doing it - with Joe in the background (I'm hoping she gives me permission to show you).

After fun with Joe, onto fun with Mr C (ish):

Read - 30 minutes please. Yesterday, we took delivery of 4 copies of George Orwell's book, Animal Farm, so we'll be doing that here too.

Writing - continue with the diaries. Hopefully I can post some excellent examples later.

Maths - Solving Problems with Decimals. Again, it is up to you what level of challenge you decide on.

Those of you still wanting exercise, let's move onto 6 x press-ups and 6 x sit-ups (once you've warmed up with 30 star jumps and jogged on the spot for 3 minutes). Challenge a parent to join in - I'd LOVE to see those photo!

Topic - Africa: I'd like you to try to list ALL the countries in Africa. See if you can work out how many there are.

GPS - Changing Tense. These last few pages are basically KS3 level, so don't worry too much about them, just have a go.

Language - Speak to your parents, see if you can download the Duolingo app and have a go for 15 minutes.

Rio recommends Genius Square. I'll hopefully put a photo on later.

Keep in touch and, if you are sending me photos of your work, please let me know if I have your permission to share them with everyone else.

Stay safe, keep smiling and be positive.

Monday 23rd March

admin on: Class 6

Good morning Year 6! The sun is shining and there's not a cloud (or plane) in the sky.
I hope you've all had a good weekend, been on a walk with your family, watched a cheesy film (we watched Wayne's World 2 - I think I know all the words!) and played some games together. I'm doing a jigsaw of San Francisco and I've been playing Mr Kershaw at Scrabble online. At the moment the scores are 286 to me and 227 to him - I've got one tile left to play. I recommend you download the app World Geography - Quiz Game by Atom Games Ent. It's free and fun and challenging - flags, countries, capital cities, continents, islands, etc.

Now, I know we'd usually be doing guided reading first, but things are going to be a little different. Here are today's activities:

1) Read for 30 minutes. This can be the newspaper, online news, a fiction book, a non-fiction reference book - anything.

2) Writing: You should have some paper in your pack. Today you will begin your diary. Put the date at the top and remember those writing points. Think about the things that I would point out: commas, capital-looking 's', passive sentences, etc. I want you to write 1-2 paragraphs. Include what you are reading and your thoughts, any games you have played, any humorous interactions/conversations with your family, your thoughts and feelings about what is going on.

3) Maths: Division with decimals from your pack. There is a short explanation at the top of the page, which is worth reading to recap. You can choose whether you do section A, B or C (or all!).

4) PE. Sorry, we can't play Benchball (sad, crying emoji). I want you to do 30 star jumps, jog on the spot for 3 minutes, 5 press-ups (watch an online video if you want to know how to do them correctly) and 5 sit-ups. We'll build up slowly. We are having family exercise half-hour every day at 10am.

5) Topic: Write down all 7 continents, all 5 oceans and find 5 islands in the continent that begins with the letter O.

6) GPS: page 38, Varied verb forms.

Mrs Johnson thinks it's a good idea if you either a) cook, or bake something b) grow something and/or c) learn a new game. See how you go on.

You can reply to this blog, or you can email me on: class6@netherthongprimary.co.uk if you have any questions, or you want to show me your work. Georgie emailed me on Friday and included a photo of her writing, which was superb! I will try to find a way of sharing comments/work each day. There are apps that your parents can download (like Office Lens), which scan your work and turn it into a pdf, or Word document, that can then attach to emails, if you want to try that.

Have a lovely day everyone; I'm missing you all. Stay safe and keep smiling.

Mathletics - Monday 23rd March for 7 days.

admin on: Class 6

I have set up next week's Mathletics activities - this will go live from Monday morning.

It is all around angles - in quadrilaterals and an overall test.

Any questions, ask.
