Day 1 23.3.2020

Posted: Mar 23, 2020 by: Elaine Matthews (EMatthews) on: Class 3

Good morning fabulous year 3!

Are you ready? Then here we go; your very first school day at home!!!

Here is our Monday timetable (as per a normal day in class 3);

09.00 Reading comprehension

10.00 Grammar

10.40 PLAYTIME (very important!)

11.00 P.E.

12.00 Lunchtime

13.00 Maths

14.00 EXERCISE

14.15 D.T. (healthy snack work)

15.00 Story

Here are more details regarding each of the activities. Please use your pink exercise book to answer questions or complete any work. Please remember to give your work a date and add the heading and underline it with a ruler (you know how I like rulers)!! Keep your book really neat and tidy because I can't wait to see them all when we all return to class 3.

09.00 Reading comprehension:

Select one of the comprehensions I have put in your pack. Some are trickier than others and some of you will find some shorter ones too. These may be in a clear plastic sleeve if not in your folder. Here is an example of one of the shorter ones if you prefer.

10.00 Grammar; 'Nouns with suffixes'. Here, you are selecting the appropriate word ending (suffix) to add to the root word, for example 'joy'......'joyful', 'happy'.....'happiness'. The activity is on page 26 of your Grammar book. If you don't have a book in the pack you will find the sheet- it's red and yellow, pg 26.

10.40 Playtime; go and have great fun in the garden!! Remember your milk and snack!

11.00 P.E.

We have been working on cricket in PE so ask your adult to play 'long barrier, short barrier' with you! You could do this in the garden or inside. Jog/skip/hop around and when they call our long or short barrier you have to do just that!!

Practise underarm throwing and catching with a soft ball or even a rolled up sock!

Practise fielding a rolling ball using long or short barrier (from a rolled ball or sock).

Now show off your fabulous technique for bowling- remember put both arms outstretched, take your bowling arm down and back in a full circle with straight arm before bowling it in-front of your adult's/partner's feet. Keep practising- bent arms are banned!!!

Try bowling and batting if you have a bat- if not, ask your adult if you have a safe replacement!!

If you hit the ball try and get some runs too!

Very soon you'll be the next 'Joe Root'!!

12.00 Lunchtime!! Enjoy!!

1.00pm Maths;

Show an adult how we use clapping, tapping and clicking to count forwards and back and recite our times tables. Today, let's go back to the 3x tables again. You may want to make up your own actions; see how well Mum can do it!!! Timestables Rockstars is also available; I have now included just the timestables we have been working on in class so it should be less tricky. Keep practising, it's great fun!

8 questions;

  1. 234 + 50
  2. 456 - 200
  3. 1/2 of 24
  4. What time will it be in 1 hour?
  5. How many angles does a hexagon have?
  6. Can you draw a right angle?
  7. 564 divided by 4
  8. 34 x 10

 Problem; If the caretaker ordered 26 packs of milk cartons and there were 10 in each pack, how many would he have altogether? How many would there be if he then dropped 3 single cartons?

Activity today;  'Money'! Please collect as many coins as you can; you will need to ask an adult to wash them for you and dry them and you'll need to wash your hands after this game! Today I'd really like you to play 'shopping'. Create a shop using any items Mum is happy for you to use. It may be toys or fruit for example. Decide on the prices for these. You may wish to label them. Some could be under £1, others could be more. Price them between 50p and £5 (very expensive fruit!!). Now go shopping! Buy one item at a time and SELECT THE CORRECT COINS to pay for the items. You may wish to draw the item/name it in your book and tell me the price and then draw the coins you selected (just circles with the coin name inside).

This activity can be extended by buying 2 items and calculating the total, before selecting the coins.

Enjoy!!

2.00pm  Exercise; Go and have 15 minutes exercise; bike, scooter, 10 star jumps in every room are just a few examples!!!

2.15pm D.T. Try and remember what your healthy sandwich was going to contain. IIf you can't, plan another. You'll need protein, vitamins and carbohydrates. Write down your choices for each food group; eg baguette/sliced wholemeal, ham, grated cheese, tomato, sweet chilli sauce (yummy)!! Today, can you practise the skills you will need to make it? You will need to practise spreading margarine or soft butter on bread, grating cheese, peeling a carrot (for example) and chopping the vegetables you choose (pepper or cucumber perhaps). So today is a practising skills session!!

3.00pm  Story; Enjoy a well-earned relaxing story together!!

Have fun and please email me if you have any concerns at all.

Tune in tomorrow morning for our next blog!!
