Remote Learning Monday 18th May 2020

Posted: May 15, 2020 by: Mrs Parker (NHemingway) on: Class 2

Good morning, Miss H here! I am very excited to be with you for the full week!

I have had a very relaxing weekend! I took some time to add more to my colour by numbers painting, I did some baking with my Mum and Grandma and carried on looking at old photos in preparation for a very special occasion coming up in July. I also had a video call from my fish! I have missed them very much, especially talking to them! Unfortunately, one of them passed away so we buried it in the garden. At least we still have lots more to keep us amused, here is a picture of some of my beautiful little fish …

This links in very well with our literacy, just a little heads up!

Here is the suggested timetable for the day:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins (remember to record your reading in your planners)

Active time - Joe Wicks guided PE lesson at 9am

Don’t forget GoNoodle:

Maths/Reading Comprehension - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Break – Why not play a game of I spy ... I spy with my BIG eye, something beginning with g?

This week, with me, your literacy work is going to be based on the book Rainbow Fish by Michael Pfister.

Here is a YouTube link to the book being read aloud:

Also, here is a link to a website where you can read the book yourself if you don’t have it at home:

https://www.storyjumper.com/book/read/44701546/The-Rainbow-Fish

In the book, Michael Pfister uses a lot of descriptive language to help the reader imagine what is being described to them. Today, I would like you to write a description of the setting to the story which is under the sea, using adjectives. Use everything you have been taught so far in year 2 to really wow me!

Here is the start of mine …

Far below where the golden sun shimmered on the surface, deeper than the rainbow coral, beyond the darkest of caverns stood the most glorious of all sights.

Like golden shards from heaven, beams of light sliced through the darkness to reveal a myriad of colours.  Plants, all neatly placed in organised rows, waved at the passing traffic. There were shoals of shimmering fish which were all colours of the rainbow including yellow, green, red, orange and blue. Along the sea bed there were scuttling, red crabs darting along, lumbering purple squid dodging in and out of the hustle and bustle of sea life, and majestic, regal blue whales diving down deep after reaching the surface for air.

Here is a video of life under the sea for some inspiration:

History;

In history, we are going to be organising pictures of the seaside in chronological order. Have a look through these information slides and discuss when you think the pictures were taken. 100 years ago? 50 years ago? Recently?

Then, look at the speech bubbles and decide which one is talking about a holiday 100 years ago, 50 years ago and a recent holiday. Could you guess correctly?

Here are some sheets which show blank swimming outfits for the three different eras. Research to find out what outfits at this time looked like then colour in each costume in an appropriate design. If you don’t have access to a printer, just draw what they looked like in your home learning books. Here is what they look like on this sheet:

When you have finished, cut out each of the people and arrange them in your home learning books in chronological order. Remember chronological order is putting things in the order that they happened. You could write some descriptions of what seaside holidays during each of these times was like. Have fun!

Remember to email to let us know how you are getting on! Have a lovely day!

Miss H
