9:00- 10:00 - English
On Thursday, many of you will have written your introductory paragraph for your information text on beating boredom. You may also have grouped the activities into different sections. If you remember, I gave these suggestions for grouping:
- Physical activities
- Mindfulness
- Academic
- Safe but silly
- Activities with your family
Today, I would like you to crack on with writing each section of your information text. I would recommend one paragraph for each section. My advice would be to introduce each activity and then explain what it is. Use your grouping titles as subheadings. For example:
Physical Activities
As we all have to stay indoors as much as possible, you may be worried about how to get your physical exercise. Despite having less space indoors, you can still do lots of things to stay physically fit. Why not try Joe Wicks' YouTube channel? Every morning, he provides children with a thirty minute PE lesson that involves lots of different exercises to get your heart pumping. If you have a garden, you could set up an obstacle course. This helps you stay physically fit as well as working the mind. Marvellous!
When writing, pay attention to the writing targets at the front of your books. You want to try and get as many of them as possible. Can you work out which ones I have included in the paragraph above?
You will have today and tomorrow to write this, so don't worry if you don't get it all done today.
Here are the 8 questions for today:
1.) Where is the FULL noun phrase? My brand new pet dog is called Bobby.
2.) Where is the relative clause? In 1988, when I was born, there was no such thing as smart phones.
3.) What tense is this sentence in? How do you know? I will complete my maths soon.
4.) What is wrong with this sentence? I would like to know you're thoughts on this situation.
5.) Add a comma: She was completely bored but she still wouldn't play with her brother!
6.) Move the adverbial to the front. Make sure you put a comma in the correct place. We went to Cliffe House in 2019.
7.) Where is the adjective? The race was difficult, but he completed it!
8.) Find the two articles. The trolley contained plums, apples and an orange.
10:00-10:30 Reading Comprehension
Maths 11:00-12:00
We are continuing with problems involving measurements. Today it is on mass (weight).
Remember:
1000 grams = 1 KILO gram. Kilo means 1000.
To convert from grams to kilograms you divide by 1000.
To convert from kilograms to grams you multiply by 1000.
I would recommend you complete two sets. So if you usually do set A, try to do A and B.
The 10 questions:
1.) 4 and 3/4 X 5 =
2.) 1/4 + 5/12 =
3.) Which 3D shape's net has 6 squares?
4.) Write six hundred and thirty four thousand, two hundred and twenty six in digits.
5.) 894 X 45
6.) What are the next two numbers? 5.697, 5.698, 5.699 ? ?
7.) Round 4.567 to one decimal place.
8.) 5.673 + 3.499 =
9.) 4 and 3/4 as an improper fraction.
10.) 0.51 as a percentage.
13:00-14:00 History
The Mayans were awesome at maths. They had their own number system which was incredibly complicated once the numbers get large. However, the numbers up to 19 are fairly simple. I have put a picture of them below. What I would like you to do, is create some maths problems using the Mayan numbers. You can write the answers in our normal number system, but the questions need to be in Mayan. If you send me your work via email, I will solve the problems and send them back to you. I've given you loads of maths recently, why don't you get your own back and send me some?!
14:00-15:00 PE.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Joe Wicks YouTube.
- Come up with a unique way to get your heart racing today. Something you've not done before.
- Practise a skill. For example, how many keepy ups can you do with a football? Try to beat your record. Mine is only 6! I'm going to try and improve. Or maybe you want to see how long you can plank for?
Thanks as always for your support. If you want to contact me for a quick reply, it is actually better to email me at class5@netherthongprimary.co.uk rather than comment on the blog. They take ages to come through! But, if you just want to comment on the blog without needing a reply, please do!
