Spelling at Netherthong

At Netherthong Primary School, we use Spelling Shed to support the teaching of spelling throughout the school as well as the Read Write Inc Phonics scheme.  All children can access the Spelling Shed using their log in details. The website can be found here https://play.edshed.com/

Spelling and word knowledge are key components in the process of learning to read and write. Spelling Shed makes the acquisition of these key skills fun and engaging for pupils.  The game aspect of Spelling Shed ensures children are engaged and eager to practise their spellings regularly. The low-stakes games, quizzes and reward systems ensure that children find spelling fun. The games can be played in class and/or assigned for home learning, making them perfect for in-school learning, homework or both.

Handwriting at Netherthong

At Netherthong Primary School, we strive for a consistent style of handwriting throughout the school which is clear, fluent and neat. Staff understand that handwriting involves a progression of skills and that the different elements need to be taught and practised. Early intervention is essential at every stage, to prevent the acquisition of bad habits which are difficult to correct.  We aim for children to know the importance of clear and neat presentation in order to communicate meaning effectively and strive to develop a sense of pride in the children’s presentation of their work.

Netherthong Primary School uses the Charles Cripps Handwriting Scheme. Please see the policy below for more detail.
