Carnegie Book Club

admin on: Class 6

10 children from year 6 were challenged with the task of reading all eight books that were finalists for this year's Carnegie award, within the last couple of months. Mrs Johnson and I joined them in this and yesterday we all went to Holmfirth High School to an event run by Read bookshop.

At the event we took part in workshops to discuss the books with other schools and then we voted on our own personal favourites, before the actual winner was announced.

The book that won the Carnegie prize was 'The Poet X' by Elizabeth Acevedo, which was also the winning book at our event.

All eight books are now available to read for any of the year 6 children to read, but parents should be aware that some have more adult content and are aimed at KS3 level children. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Relationships Education

admin on: Class 6

Hopefully, your child has come home after our lesson on Tuesday with lots of interesting questions; maybe some of you have even done a multiple-choice quiz to 'refresh' your memories?

We will be continuing the lessons with the BBC DVD 'Living and Growing' once my computer is convinced that it can play DVDs...

Again, if you have any concerns or questions, please email me (martin.clayton@netherthongprimary.co.uk), or pop in for a chat.

Thanks - Mr C

Movie Day

admin on: Class 6

As part of the reward for the hard work this year, we all voted on activities that we wanted to do in the next 6 weeks.

One of them was a Movie Day, so, this Friday 14th June, your child can come to school with pyjamas, dressing gowns, onesies, cuddly toys, sleeping bags and pillows.

We are currently compiling a stock of DVDs, which we will vote on this Thursday.

Thanks in advance,
Mr C

Art Day

admin on: Class 6

Today we welcomed in Tony and Helen, who brought in a stretched piece of silk:

We have been adding paint to this in small groups all day...

And it began to take shape...

This will eventually be paraded, as a banner, at 1.15pm on the 16th June, from Hollowgate as part of the Holmfirth Arts Festival.

SATs Breakfasts

admin on: Class 6

We would like to formally thank Brindon Addy for providing the bacon and sausages for this week's SATs breakfasts, but these breakfasts would not have been cooked without the expertise and consideration of Andy Lowe, our chef, who puts in extra hours just to make sure that the children get the best possible start to the week.

Thank you to everyone who has made this week such a success!
