Week ending 3.3.23

Posted: Mar 8, 2023 by: Zoe Watkins (ZWatkins) on: Class 3

WOW! What an exciting week we have had! It was World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. Everyone came to school wearing pyjamas and slippers! We spent the day doing lots of activities that related to reading books. We lay blankets on the floor of the classroom and got cosy. We read with our reading buddies from Reception Class, we played ‘charades’ and we swapped books with each other to discover new stories.

In Maths this week, we looked at measurement. We used rulers to help us and practiced with lots of different objects to measure in centimetres and millimetres. We used these findings to add and subtract. For example adding together the length of a pencil and a rubber. We started to look at adding centimetres and metres (428cm add 3.17m), we converted metres into centimetres first before adding them together.

In Science, we looked at some new plants and drew these and then labelled them. We also wrote about the characteristics of plants and what they do to help us in our environment. They help us to stay healthy and help animals and insects too. We learnt the names of the parts of the plants and their functions.

In RE we have learnt about Moses. He looked after the people, animal and plants. He was a very kind man who liked to help people.

In Literacy this week, we are starting to learn about past tense and nouns. We were turning sentences into the past tense. “I have been there before. I have seen a circus before.”

In PE we had our coach and we continued our gymnastics sessions looking at jumps and landings and balancing. In cricket we learnt how to throw, catch and using a bat to hit the ball.

Our favourite dinner this week was the pasta with tomato and basil sauce.  This is one of our favourites on a Wednesday!
