Week ending 3.2.23

Posted: Feb 3, 2023 by: Zoe Watkins (ZWatkins) on: Class 3

Once again we have had a busy week this week learning so many new things and carrying on with our Literacy book ‘Nim’s Island!   We have found Jack is alive – he is Nim’s father. He has been investigating different types of plankton in the sea. Sharks have made an appearance in the story too and a ship is arriving from another island we think.

In Maths this week, we have looked at different types of money. We have looked at coins and notes! We have practiced adding different amounts together and that different coins are worth the same. It’s a fun topic in maths to study.

In RE we have listened to the story about the Good Samaritan, we have started writing our own versions of this fable.

As part of our Geography and Outdoor Learning topics we have carefully studied a map of a forest area. We looked at and discussed all of the different features of a woodland area such as gates, walls, lakes, streams, campsites and flower meadows. We Also talked about the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees. We then got to design our own maps and symbols for places that we have chosen.

In Literacy this week, we are also reading the book Puzzle Island. It is a very interesting book because it is made up of entirely of different puzzles. We could see creatures hidden within the images, we had to decode letters from secret messages and we saw a lot of different places and locations such as volcanic and treasure islands, tree houses and other unusual places. We got to design our own islands and places with hidden animals in our drawings.

In French we were learning about the months of the year. Also using the word et (and) to write sentences in French.

Yesterday in PE, we had our PE coach and we played a few team games whilst passing the rugby ball as our warm up. We then got stuck into playing some actual games of tag rugby. We wore belts that had tags attached, our opposing team mates had to pull these off to stop us from scoring a try. It was great fun and everyone had a turn to play each other.

Our favourite dinner this week was the loaded vegetable pizza.  This is one of our favourites on a Thursday!

Here are a few photographs of our  money work.

Have a wonderful weekend.
