Blog for week ending 27.1.23

We have had a busy week this week learning so many new things and carrying on with our new Literacy book ‘Nim’s Island!   We have found out that her mum went to the bottom of the sea and hasn’t swum back. Her dad went off in a boat and has not come back yet! Nim doesn’t know that her friend Alex who she thought was a boy, is a girl.  Alex sent Nim a letter and that is how we found out.

In Maths this week, we continued to work with different measurements and even went outside to measure different things. We measured the perimeter of the playground, a fence and other things we found that were painted on the playground. We were working out whether to measure in meters, centimetres or millimetres. We used a trundle wheel, a metre stick and a ruler to measure. We drew these findings in our books.  We have also learnt how to use weighing scales to measure classroom equipment and we are learning how to read scales.

In Science, we looked at our muscles and how they worked and how strong people could be!  We learnt about the different muscles in the human body. We learnt that there were around 43 muscles in our face, huge muscles in our arms and legs and the biggest muscle in our body is the gluteus maximus!

In RE we have learnt about how God wished people to live. He told the people and Moses how they should rest on a Sunday and maybe spend time with their friends and family.

In Literacy this week, we are starting to write speech in a story. We use speech marks to identify when someone is talking. Non – fiction doesn’t include as much direct speech as fiction books. We looked at different books that use inverted commas. We realised that a new line is used for each time a different character speaks. They take it in turns and have a line each.

Yesterday in PE we had our PE coach and we played Link Tig as our warm up. Amir said ‘‘We had to tig someone when we played Link Tig, it was fun.’’

“So, we tucked a band in our trousers and people tried to tug it out, “said Annabel.

“We played a game,” said Ishan. “We had to get past the defenders and score a try.”

Our favourite dinner this week was the salmon pasta bake.  This is one of our favourites on a Friday!

What a great week Class 3!
