Week ending 20.1.23

Posted: Jan 20, 2023 by: Zoe Watkins (ZWatkins) on: Class 3

We have had a busy week this week learning so many new things and starting our new Literacy book ‘Nim’s Island! The book is about Nim who lives on a desert island with her sea lion and iguana.

In Maths this week, we were finding out how to measure in meters, centimetres and millimetres. We used a trundle wheel, a metre stick and a ruler to measure. We measured the length of the hall, the staffroom and the corridor. We drew these findings in our books.  We have also learnt how to calculate the perimeter of a 2D shape.

In Science we looked at bones and skeletons again. We cut out our skeletons and learnt about the different bones in the human body. We had to cut very carefully.  We learnt the names of some of the bones in our bodies and know that adults usually have 206 bones in total.

In RE we have learnt about the Ten Commandments. God told the people and Moses how they should live.

In PE we have a rugby coach who is teaching us all about different skills in rugby. We practiced passing the ball, playing rugby tig and learning how to score a try. We learnt how to safely dive down on a crash mat to score a try. Miss Watkins had a go too! We have also played hockey and practiced holding the hockey stick properly.

In Literacy this week and last week we have combined our Geography topic and have chosen our own different countries to investigate. Spain, Canada, Portugal, Greece, Brazil are just some of the selection! We presented our findings on populations, currency, rivers, capital cities, food and culture in the form of a double spread. These were very interesting to look at and read.

Our favourite dinner this week was the breakfast – bacon, sausage, eggs and hash browns.  This was very unusual to have for our dinner.

Well done this week Class 3.  What a mature class you are.
