Week ending 13.1.23

Posted: Jan 13, 2023 by: Zoe Watkins (ZWatkins) on: Class 3

We have had a busy week this week learning so many new things!

In Maths this week, we were finding out about different fractions including tenths, fifths, quarters, thirds and halves. We learnt that you needed ten tenths to make a whole one and five tenths is the same as a half. We learnt that different sized fractions can make the same amount or size. We have ordered these and we have added them too.

In Science, we looked at bones and skeletons. There are three types - hydrostatic skeleton (this is like a ball of liquid and its floppy), exoskeleton (the bones are outside like a hard shell) and endoskeleton (the bones are inside the body).

We are reading our class book The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop and are very much enjoying finding out about the characters in the story. There is a cat that belongs to a family that have recently moved to the Chocolate shop.  The girl in the book thinks that it might be a ghost!

In RE we have completed drawings of our favourite book covers. These have been fun to draw and also lovely to see each other’s book choices.  Miss Watkins favourite book is The Magic Faraway Tree!

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

In PE we have a rugby coach who is teaching us all about different skills in rugby. We practiced pass the ball, playing rugby tig and learning how to get a try. We have also played hockey.

In Literacy this week, we have combined our Geography topic and have chosen our own different countries to investigate. Spain, Canada, Portugal, Greece, Brazil is just some of the selection! We are finding out about populations, currency, rivers, capital cities, food and culture. We will complete this research and present these findings in the form of a double page spread.

Our favourite dinner this week was roast of the day.

Written by Florence and a little help from some of her friends.

Have a wonderful weekend

Miss Watkins
